Alma de Ojochal was our first stop in an 18 night stay in Costa Rica. The location is fantastic with nice views towards the Pacific and the pool is a bonus. It's not easy to find the hotel though - especially at night - since the turning off the main highway looks like a farm track. We missed it and... More

We drove from Quepos and the drive was easy and scenic. Route 34 is paved and an easy ride. The hotel is located off 34 by making a left on a dirt road just passed the entrance to Ojochal. It is a steep climb to hotel and quite rocky so make sure you rent a 4X4. We rented a little... More

Hello and thanks for your feedback. Peaceful is a good word for Alma. Yes, we do recommend a 4x4. Our Ocean View Queen room may seem a little disproportionate, but not to a person with disabilities. The room was designed with them in mind. In fact, at Alma, we take great pride in our accessibility. Guests can go from parking... More

Now I know why some reviewers have stayed here multiple times. I had originally booked the hotel because we had planned to attend the Envision Festival. As it turned out, our tickets fell through, but after three nights at Alma, we were not disappointed to miss the Festival, as it was bloody hot I was told at the Festival during... More

We LOVE Alma! We are on day 13 of a 21 day CR vacation. 4th trip and 3rd stay with the guys who own Alma. Our trip began with 8 days at Alma followed by 4 days at Playa Matapalo (gorgeous beach stay at Rafiki Camping when you go there) and now at the suggestion of Scott of Alma we... More

Wonderful and comfortable room in a small, well-maintained and beautifully landscaped hotel. Everything very clean. Delicious breakfast included. Cheerful, accommodating English-speaking staff. From the pool, you can look out to the ocean to one side, mountains to the other. We were in transit from San Jose to the Osa Peninsula, and the location was perfect. Only downside: poor signage from... More

very nice hotel in the hills with beautiful view. Perfect quiet rooms, clean very friendly. King size beds in best quality. No restaurant for diner in the hotel. When it rains 4 wheel drive is beneficial.

We stayed four nights at Alma and wished we could have stayed forever. We traveled with two other couples and our rooms had the ability to join balconies so that was perfect for us. Everything from the delicious breakfasts daily (something different every morning), the polite and professional service, our daily excursions booked for us, stunning views, bird/wildlife watching, clean... I stayed for three nights in July 2014 and wished I could have stayed for 30 nights instead. View of ocean and Forest/Jungle area in the mountains is exceptional. I stayed in one of the top units and found it spotless, well decorated with a fabulous balcony looking out to the Pacific Ocean. Breakfast was great and lunch and or... More

Our third trip to Alma de Ojochal after changing owners from when it was El Buena Vista. We find the accommodations extremely comfortable and love the huge back patio that the upper floor rooms have with the ocean view. A nice little wet bar/kitchenette lets you keep a few snacks and drinks around in case you want to just hang... More

After a month long stay in various areas of Costa Rica, we wound down the tail end of our trip with a water taxi ride (Zuma Tours) from Montezuma to Jaco and connecting shuttle/taxi to Dominical/Ojochal. The ride to the hotel was a bit of 4-wheel drive adventure up the mountain to a truly amazing place overlooking the ocean and... More
