My wife and I stayed there mid Jan 2014. We loved staying in the traditional Japanese room, Japanese breakfasts and dinners were outstanding. The Mens and Womens onsens on the top floor were very warm and clean and sitting in the outside onsen with snow falling on you was a great experience. The village is not a huge place. However,... We stayed here in Feb 2014 in a room on level 3 with our private onsen. The room was Japanese style with tatami but extremely comfortable, warm and well cleaned. The private onsen is fantastic. Indeed we never felt the need for the shared onsen. Highly recommended. Pros - great hospitality from the Japanese owners and the two young foreign... More

Great traditional Japanese Hotel. We stayed in a Japanese room with futons but they do have western style rooms. You can get rooms with your own private natural spring onsen as well. Rooms are warm, bright ,clean and quiet. There were two English speaking staff members working there during our stay who were fantastic. The Hotel is situated in the... More

Great guesthouse in the Japanese tradition, comfortable, close to resturants and ski fields. Breakfast is supplied so alternate between the Japanese and western for the full experience. Two English speaking staff make communication a breeze. All in all, highly recommended for a great stay. P.S. Hit the onsens on the 4th floor. Sensational morning and night.

First time to Akakura , and had a wonderful experience staying at Oyado Furuya with my Older ski buddies... Good location good food and hospitality .. Would highly recommend ... It was our first time to the Myoko kogen ski fields which I found somewhat disjointed but linked via a free shuttle bus service... Very friendly people and wonderful environment... More

Our family stayed over the Christmas school holidays and had a lovely relaxed time. this is a traditional onsen and we slept on futons on the floor. Our breakfast was a choice of western breakfast (the real thing, even with toast!) or traditional Japanese. Despite being seriously traditional the folk running the onsen were relaxed and flexible. We felt very... More

Highly recommend this place In akakura onsen. The owners are lovely and the staff are very helpful and polite. We stayed in a traditional japanese room and it was fun sleeping on the tatami floor! There are two onsens and they are both lovely perfect after a day on the slopes. We enjoyed the mountains in the area and would... More

It was my families first time in Japan and it was fantastic. We travelled with four families. Everyone was friendly and always offering to help. It's the perfect place for a family ski holiday but I don't think you would come here with your mates for skiing and boozing. We only skied in the 2 areas closest to our hotel.... More

A very friendly, helpful, comfortable and true Japanese experience. The ryokan employs one experienced English speaker who is, at present, Koichi. He was so attentive, ensuring we knew our way around the hotel's facilities, helping us frequently with local information and answering all our questions; giving us a wonderful insight into Japanese life and culture. He became a friend during... More

Having now travelled to Japan skiing four times already (with the fifth already booked), we’ve come to appreciate that relatively few foreign guests seem to provide reviews of their stay at Japanese hotels; thus it is often hard to gauge a hotel’s quality. In Oyado Furuya’s case, there was a good number of Japanese, Australian and American guests staying as... More
