Balmacara Mains is a wannabe paradise on earth. And it gets close to being such: everything from the lovely location just on the beach of the loch surrounded by a verdant scenery to the comfy bedroom and modern facilities makes you dream. However, I feel that this "luxury guest house" as it calls itself is a bit pretentious.Scarce care was... More

Balmacara Mains is a B&B that feels more like a hotel. The location is lovely, quiet and right by the loch. There's not much within walking distance but we drove 15 mins (down very narrow roads) to Plockton for dinner. The guesthouse manager was very helpful, sorting out a problem with the key not working without any fuss and allowing... More

This is more of a hotel than guest house. We stayed in room 4 which had great views across the loch to the surrounding countryside. The room was a good size with a fantastically comfortable bed. The shower room was well equipped and warm. The breakfast was lovely with freshly brewed coffee that was strong and hot. Full cooked breakfast... More

Ideal place to rest your head with some wonderful locations nearby, Skye, Plockton, Applecross, and many more wonderful places to visit on the NW of Scotland. Clean, comfortable and a great breakfast. Highly recommended.

On the shore of Loch Alsh with views of the Isle of Sky beyond, we arrived to be met by Norman and were shown to room 3 on the ground floor,(our own choice: at our age stairs are a real challenge), which was large, well furnished and with a huge comfortable bed. Everywhere, including the bathroom was spotlessly clean. All... More

Lovely situation on the edge of a loch though a little tricky to find. I had Room 1 with the creaky ceiling but it was otherwise quiet, very comfortable & well-appointed with a huge & amazingly comfortable bed: though I am normally a bad sleeper I slept well. An exceptionally good breakfast with possibly the best fruit, coffee & black... More

The facility has a direct view to the Loch and over to Isle of Skye. Parking facilities directly at the house. We were a little bit disappointed about the size of the rooms, where we stayed in room No. 6 that had direct view from the window to the beach. Personal service ist not available all over the day, since... More

We stayed at balmacara mains on our visit to isle of skye. It's very close to Kyle of lochalsh and therefore perfect for visiting the beautiful isle of skye. From there we visited also the eilean donan castle which is within a few miles. The place itself is beautiful, with stunning view on the bay, and you get that view... More

Coming up to our stay at the b and b I had a couple of lovely emails and was looking forward to our stay. The room itself was a lovely size, good bathroom, comfy beds and had lovely view of the loch. I have rated as 3 due to the lack of the personal touch, on arrival we were left... More

Recently spent a couple of nights here in early June. An absolute fabulous place to stay, while touring the Isle of Skye. A beautiful bedroom (Room 3) with a superb bathroom, and a lovely sun lounge attached. Such a peaceful and tranquil area with amazing views over the Loch. Met on arrival by a lovely gent called Norman, full of... More
