This is one of France's hidden treasures. Our visit to La Basse Cour near Alencon in Normandy was absolutely delightful. We have visited France on many occasions, but had never before found such a great place. The house, which was in a small village, was set well back from the road in the most beautiful grounds complete with a small... more

Great location and accommodation. This is a charming setting with a lovely garden and comfortable bedrooms. We were made very welcome and I have no hesitation in recommending it. more

This was our first stop in france, unfortunately it was also the best, so every where else was a bit of a let down! Beautiful spot, very peaceful, immaculate room with the bonus of a guest lounge. We had a great meal in the local bar, and Alencon is also well worth a visit, a pretty but up to date... more

We have stayed here on several occasions in the past but only for one night, en route to or from a holiday rental. This time we stayed for longer because (a) we had been promising ourselves to do so - though we meant to come in summer not mid-winter! - but mainly (b) we were thinking of buying a property... more

We stayed at La Basse Cour on both the outward and return journeys to our holiday destination in Brittany. We found the internet site both informative and easy to use, whilst the information supplied about local amenities, directions and eating facilities was excellent. We received a warm welcome from our hosts Phil and Jude, whilst the standard of accommodation including... more

I can only agree with all the other reviews. Jude and Phil are very welcoming and thoughtful hosts and their house is just beautiful. We stayed overnight en route home and found it to be perfect. Near enough to the motorway not to make too much of a detour but far enough away from it to be calm and peaceful.... more

We booked to stay with Phil et Jude in their home for a night on the way to the Loire and another on the way back and naturally wondered a little about what we would find. NO NEED TO WORRY. The welcome that we received after a longish drive from Northern England was wonderful, the house itself was a charming,... more

I need to say...we loved this place. We were only able to stay one night, but it would be the perfect, quiet, relaxing b&b as well as a good location for day trips. Phil and Jude were wonderful hosts. They greeted us with tea and cookies which we enjoyed while sitting in the "common" area. The room quite comfortable and... more

We've just spent a week at la Basse Cour and had a wonderful stay. The B&B is lovingly cared for, comfortable and spotless, with a sitting-room upstairs for guests to relax in. Breakfast has every variation on croissants you could wish for (plus home-made jams). The garden is large and expertly tended by Jude, with plenty of seats and nooks... more

We highly recommend anyone passing near Alençon to stop off for a day or two at this terrific inn (bed & breakfast) just 10 minutes from the motorway. Terrific hosts with excellent sense of humour and very accommodating. The rooms are beautiful and full of character, the house is a converted 18th century farmhouse. It's close to a bar/restaurant and... more
