I would advise anyone not to stay in this hotel as the paint is falling of the window frame stains on the bedding mould in the shower and bugs everywhere. Never have I been so disgusted in all my life

I object strongly to the assertion that there are bugs everywhere without any evidence despite a photo relating to another part of the review. The room occupied by the guest has been let continuously since the date of the guests stay and for 8 out of the 12 days prior. Had there been bugs everywhere I am sure that at... More

My husband and I had been driving all about the Cairngorms mountains on Sunday afternoon and after all that Scottishy fresh air I just really fancied visiting an old hotel that I knew would serve steak pie - we didn't actually know of the hotel but came across it after parking in Huntly and making our way to the main... Thank you for your kind words. We like to think of ourselves as traditional rather than dated but I guess that is semantics. Loved the idea of being "Scottishy" Not heard that before. More

My brother booked this hotel for our mothers birthday meal, i definitely wasn't impressed. The poor waitress had to serve 18 of us on her own, granted she did a good job but there should have been at least 2 serving in my opinion. As for the food it was nothing special, myself and the 3 younger children had to... More

Unfortunately I was not on duty that day but it seems that two members of staff phoned in sick. The comments made are therefore justifiable given that we were short staffed. I have been in touch with the organiser of the event (hence the delay in responding) and offered my apologies and some vouchers by way of compensation. More

The food is fine if you dont want anything special, have been a few times as it is handy but the menu doesn't seem to vary much from one year to the next. The hotel itself needs updating. The prices are quite reasonable and owners and some of the staff are friendly enough, but as there are not a lot... More

Thank you for the review and comments. We change the menu twice a year but many of our customers favourites remain year on year. We do have a specials board with four or five main courses and these change daily to give on going variety of choice. More

I stayed here for three nights in January - despite the cold outside, the Gordon Arms was warm. Finding the key hole for my room was a struggle because the light didn't work in the corridor. Food's OK & for anyone that wants a change from eating in, there's a Chinese take-away around the corner & an Indian about 500m... More

Thank you for your comments. You rightly state that the shower pressure in two of our rooms (including this one) is low and so we tend to recommend other rooms for those who prefer a shower. However having reconsidered we are exploring the possibility of adding power showers here if plumbing and electrics allow.. Apologies re the faulty light. More

Got stranded here after van trouble, popped in for tea on my own. Staff were friendly enough, veg chilli on a plate with dry rice, no tortillas or sour cream or anything, had a side of chips to, nothing spectacular, nor particularly bad, i ate it all as I was hungry. Not sure of the local prices, seemed a bit... More

Thank you for your comments regarding your meal. We have reviewed our procedures and will ensure that in future we give nachos and sour cream with the vegetarian chilli. Disappointed that you thought that the rice was not up to standard. We have had comments re the toilets but any change would be purely cosmetic and so in the current... More

We booked this hotel for one night as we were attending a wedding locally. It is a bit run down and needs maintenance - door locks difficult to manage and radiator in Room 18 was not working. En suite bathroom basic but I have to say plenty of hot water. Single glazing means room a bit cold and not well... More

Can only describe this as one of the worst meal ever. My husband tried to order brie wedges as a starter but these were unavailable so he opted for pate.. When it came it was pate and a small side salad - no toast or oatcakes to eat with it. For main he ordered pork stuffed with haggis on a... More

We are a very busy establishment and we do occasionally fail to live up to our own high standards. On this occasion I personally spoke to the lady making the complaint and agreed that the salmon looked undercooked. We operate a no quibble policy and so after apologising I stated we would not charge for the meal and offered a... More

Stopped here on passing Huntly tonight. Lovely dinner using local ingredients. Beautifully cooked meat with fresh vegetables. Enjoyed the atmosphere of traditional dining. Waitresses friendly helpful and efficient. Good varied menu and I noted that there were smaller portions available which would be good if dining with elderly relatives. Will definitely return!

I originally planned to stay only one night but extended this to two nights. Staff were welcoming and happy to help with information about the surrounding area. Meals were large portions and well priced The building s date back to the 17th century and as a result the building comes with it quirks. All of which adds to the experience... More
