This was our second stay at the Ernest House, but the first after having lived in Japan for several years. I can say this my wife's and my favorite spot in Japan and the Ernest House is one of the reason's why. The Ernest House provides simple accommodations within walking distance to a beautiful beach. The restaurant attached to the... More

Ernest House is a comfortable hotel a three minute walk away from Kisami-Ohama beach in Shimoda. The owner speaks English and the online website makes the reservation process very easy. Free parking is available across the street from the hotel. The hotel is modern; the rooms are clean and simple, and have a bathroom attached. The bathroom is a typical... More

A great little place by the beach in southern Izu Peninsula. Very westernised and friendly staff. Foreigners will feel comfortable here. The building itself is beautiful and the restaurant adjoining serves good food at reasonable prices. Would absolutely stay again.

This place is locates right next to the amazing beach and has a very nice atmosphere. The staff is very helpfull and they have free bikes and bodybords. Take the breakfast basket to the beach, that is the best way to start the day.

We didn't stay at Ernest House but ate at their dining facility, the Mellow Cafe, a stand-alone bungalow style restaurant with lots of deck space all around and located a short walk to Ohama Beach. We had intended to have a pizza at the nearby White Beach Hotel but it was closed so the Mellow Cafe was plan B and... More

We loved this hotel. It was more than we wanted to pay but still we were willing to extend our vacation by another night. The rooms were a perfect size for the three of us. The hotel has bicycles to use and surf boards as well. The food was amazing and the beach was a few steps away! It was... More

Ernest house is very close to a couple of nice beaches which are relatively empty (for Shimoda) during the summer months. The hotel itself is clean and the rooms are adequate but nothing out of the ordinary. The breakfast basket is awesome. Decent value during peak season.

We loved Ernest House so much, we stayed twice last summer. Clean, family-run, basic accommodations with reasonable prices, especially in the off-season. However, if you're a bed snob, they are a bit hard, which is typical in Japan. Try to book on the shoulder of high season for best value -- water is still warm in late Sept but you... More

I have been here a few years ago, in the summer. The location is close to kisami beach, the parking is free and the rooms, the special breakfast (in a picnic basket , my daughter loved ! ) are great and I 'd stay again!! Amamos nos hospedar nesta pousada . Localizada a alguns metros da praia, alem dos serviços... More

My wife and I stayed one evening at the Ernest House. We checked in early and had lunch at the Mellow Cafe, the main restaurant at the hotel. The fare was excellent and an English menu is available. The bar was reasonably priced and well-stocked. This was our first stay in a Japanese hotel and we are under the impression... More
