We found this gem through TA. We were visiting the Jerta Valley area in Spain and decided, last minute, to head to Portugal. The Casa Agricola is very nice and well managed. The staff were always helpful and courteous. The grounds are magnificent and well maintained. A stroll through the orchard is a must. The pool area is great but a... More

After driving through the famous n-222 that winds along the Douro, we arrived to Vila Real because the cost of staying in the more famous douro river cities like Pinao (sp?) was more than we wanted to spend for one night. The city itself is okay, but the property blew us away. Its not a 5 star hotel, but its... More

Carmen, our host, was fantastic! she called us the day of our arrival to ensure that we knew how to get to the place. we stay 2 nights in mid-June - had the entire place to ourselves. which was perfect. the place has a rustic charm which is what we were expecting after spending time in Porto before. the room... this was the first night of our Portuguese holiday and what a start! Lovely location on the outskirts of Vila Real and they hosts could not have been nice. We liked their whole eco-tourism approach and this was a real delight to stay there. Shame we were moving on the next day because we could easily have stayed there longer!

What a lovely place! The house is charming, the staff pleasant and helpful and the grounds beautiful. Carmen was a star with great tips on where to visit and places to eat. The yellow cat, not at all intrusive or bothersome, was delightful as well. We stayed in room 4 which was spacious and had a second door which led... More

Three of us stayed here for 4-5 days and had the most amazing time. Carmen was our very friendly host and made us feel very welcome. They have an honor bar-take the beer and wine you wish to drink, and just be honest about it when it comes time to pay. Fresh strawberries were shared with us, we were given... More

Simply cannot understand the earlier two negative reviews. What a fantastic spot. Beautiful old buildings on a working farm run by some really friendly people. Ines gave a great welcome with advice for tours which we did and you should too. Fantastic drives through the Douro valley. Our two bedroom cottage had everything we needed for self catering and a... After visiting several larger Portuguese cities and staying in regular hotels, Casa da Levada was so peaceful and relaxing. Wish we had planned a longer stay. We stayed in one of the cottages that are a short walk from the main house. Carmen and Ines were so welcoming and generous with their time. . . you feel like you're guests... More

On the positive side: nice premises (an ex farm house), gardens. Very nice personal (though we didnt meet the owners, just the helpers). Peaceful. Clean. Generous and good breakfast. On the negative: the rooms themselves are not so good, esp for the price (60 euros per room, off season). There are some rooms in the priniciple building, then apartments in... More
