Beautiful is not a word good enough to describe Rondo. The place is breath taking, with the tranquility that only unspoilt nature can offer. I will keep coming back. I have visited Rondo twice and each time my visit has been wonderful. Great food, lovely rooms, lots of books to read, no TV, lovely nature trails into Kakamega forest, a... More

I did not know what to expect from the Rondo retreat centre! What I experienced was no disappointment! The staff were so very helpful and friendly (you could tell how hard they worked at long hours) and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food served, although slightly limited, was tasty and well presented - I would have preferred... More

The Rondo Retreat Centre is ~10 km off the paved road. It is just lovely. Beautiful grounds, attentive staff, attractive rooms, and delicious food. They can arrange for guides to take you on walks through the rainforest. I highly recommend the sunrise walk - a breathtaking view.

Beautifully kept place, delicious food, great service, clean rooms and bathrooms, hot showers. They brought tea to our cottage in the afternoon, and gave us a choice of black tea, herb tea, or coffee, and brought cake along with it. The surrounding rain forest is amazing, with wonderful hikes. I especially enjoyed watching the monkeys play in the trees.

The grounds here are outstanding - they've created a beautiful, peaceful retreat center. We were there for two nights in Jan. 2014. The food was very good - I'm on a gluten-free diet and the dining room staff were very accomodating. They bring tea to your cottage every day in the late afternoon. They ask you whether you want black... More

Lovely accommodation right next to the forest. Beautiful, homely lodges at reasonable price. They are set in beautiful tropical, landscaped gardens. It does not feel like a hotel or resort at all, you feel very at home sitting on a balcony overlooking the rainforest listening to tropical bird songs :) We did the 4 hour forest walk with a guide... We went to Kakamega to visit Family. We stayed at Rondo Retreat for two days and unfortunately we had such a terrible experience that I feel I want to share this. In short, the staff was unfriendly (they never smiled, when they serve you they just do not say anything but just put everything on the table and walk away... More

We arrived quite late at the centre after getting slightly lost along the way only to be received by a grumpy host (Davids representative for the night). He didn't hide that he was quite chaffed that we were late and had been keeping up waiting for our arrival. Other than that, the food was good, the grounds were spectacular, the... More

If you go to Kakamega, do visit the forest- absolutely fantastic and worth the day. The Rondo retreat is there but it is $250.00 a night. In an economy where we paid our very skilled and educated guide plus his motorcycle transport the equivalent of $25, I could not bring myself to pay a foreigner ten times that rate for... More

One of the best places i have stayed in Kenya. This is a wonderful and unique place that I would certainly return to. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and there are amazing birds everywhere you look - the whole place echos with exotic calls! The food here is very high quality and it is derived by lovely waiters.... More
