My wife an I stayed at the Takatu Lodge Matakana on the 1st and 2nd of May WOW! WOW! WOW!. This is pure luxury, made even better by the Manager Joanne who by the way is an excellent Chef her evening platters were outstanding. I can't recommend this place high enough. We will be back for another wonderful experience. Thanks... More

We arrived to a warm welcome and a breathtaking view from our gorgeous spacious room. The lodge is small, four rooms, and we had a sea view suite , huge picture windows giving onto neat rows of vines, and then the ocean. The lodge has an architecturally dramatic main dining and living room , with surround sound and a huge... More

We stayed at Takatu Lodge in February for our 25th Wedding Anniversary and absolutely loved our time there. Tranquility, peace and beauty are the words that spring to mind. Joanne was the perfect host and pre-empted our every need and wish. Breakfast was simply amazing and luxury was to be had at every turn. We will definitely be returning. Thanks... More

This is a very peaceful, tranquil place. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and very comfortable and included a complimentary bottle of the vineyard's wine. The owners are very hospitable and obviously 'foodies'. They cooked the most delicious breakfast in the main living area/kitchen of the house which too is beautifully decorated. I would definitely recommend this as a perfect... More

We spent two nights at the lodge and it was a delight, the setting is fantastic, the lodge beautifully designed and if your looking for tranquility its superb. Joanne (manager) is lovely, relaxed, makes a cracking healthy breakfast and ensures everything runs smoothly. Matakana is lovely with a great Saturday market and there is plenty to do in the surrounding... More

A wonderful reception by Joanne with tea and home made cake. Lovely relaxed breakfast with home made jams etc and perfect poached eggs. But Possum is the undoubted Star of the show! A perfect place to stay on any trip across the North Island

We wanted to escape the city (Auckland) for the weekend and found Takatu, a bit over an hour North. It is a pleasant drive to Matakana and the lodge is beautiful when you get there. It sits on a ridge overlooking the vinyard and the views extend to the Pacific Ocean with Great Barrier Island in the distance. The hosts... More

My wife and I stayed for a few days for our 20th wedding anniversary. Mataka is an area rich with quality local produce/products and Takatu Lodge takes full advantage. Fantastic breakfast each day with fresh ingredients. Soaps, candles etc are all from local suppliers. Heather and John were excellent hosts. The lodge is first class and the whole experience was... We travel extensively for leisure, and during 2013 we spent over 16 weeks «on the road». During this time, we have visited some of the very best B&B both Australia and New Zealand has to offer. Takatu is among the top three places we have stayed, the winner is yet to be decided. So what separates Takatu from the rest?... More
