We booked for three nights and loved it so much we stayed for four. The location is stunning with views from all four bedrooms across the lodge's vineyards to the sea and Little Barrier Island beyond, while Heather & John are without doubt the best hosts we've come across in any accommodation anywhere in New Zealand - helpful, interesting and... A bubbly warm hostess, great food, good wine and marvelous views. We had just come off a ship in Auckland and drove to the lodge enjoying the great scenery along the way. Upon arriving the place look spotless and quite understated. The room was spacious and well appointed and modern. The more one looked around it became evident that a... More

Takatu is heaven on earth, fruit of the earth, work of human hands. Fantastic pinot blanc, fanatical attention to detail by the owner an ex NZ Air captain and his wife. Four delightful rooms with balconies looking out over the vines. Breakfasts to die for looking out over the vines. Two nights here were not enough, we shall return!

Just about every conceivable detail that could make your stay comfortable has been thought of here. The bed is nearly impossible to get out of in the morning, the one compelling reason being the luxurious bathtub for which bath salts, candles and fluffy towels are supplied. The owner, Heather, is incredibly knowledgeable about the area, and made some fabulous suggestions.... More
