First the positives: The Alma is in a lovely spot, and the view from our room was beautiful. The room was also very comfortable and clean - the bed was spot on for my taste (quite firm). The breakfast was okay, and the real ales and wine both lived up to expectations. This is definitely a pub with rooms rather... More

On arrival landlady rude and miserable. Pushing past me instead of using manners politely. Looking around the place is scruffy with bobbled seat cushions which we had to sit on with dog hair entwined in to them. Service from the two young girls were spot on. Although we were told we had to wait nearly an hour as a table... More

Hello There, glad to share one of my worst experience I ever had with a hotel. Travelling for business for more then 25 years, I use a lot of these "tools “to select my hotel before a trip. Tripadvisor being one of them too, I get very precious information as we all do. So, I think important to share with... More

We have just had a brilliant 1 nights stay at the Alma Inn, we couldn't fault anything. The welcome we received was friendly and curtious. The rooms were clean and the tea tray well stocked. We booked an evening meal in the Alma Inn, which was delicious, the host was really helpful with the choices and made an extra effort... More

Quite frankly, l dont think the previous 2 reviewers could have stayed at The Alma Inn (and unbelievably, yes, it is possible to write a review about an establishment without having ever been there...which quite frankly makes the whole 'Tripadviser' thing wholly wrong, and should not exist, for that reason, plus a restaurant/pub/hotel etc not being allowed to opt out... Lovely polite young bar staff but unbelievably rude Landlord and Lady. Went to see the New Year Mummers Play so the pub was very busy. We were at one end of the bar. There was room to get past us and we were moving as needed to let staff through. After being there for an hour, the landlord pushed past... More

We stayed here on Saturday 28th December. We love the Alma pub and have been many times. We needed somewhere to stay in the area and opted for the Alma. The bedrooms are at the top of the stairs above the pub kitchen, the door that might have stopped the smell of grease permeating everything in the room was vedged... More

Wow for the countryside setting and the exposed stone and beam pub with open fire in the bar area. Also I had three meals and they were all extremely good. Lamb shank for lunch, pizza for late dinner and breakfast. The room I stayed in was above the pub and thus I knew not to try to sleep before closing... More

Im confused about the review calling the fireworks display 'disappointing', from where we were stood it was incredible! Fireworks were advertised to start at 9.15pm and started at 9.25pm, which didn't bother us too much and was definitely worth the wait! Also as a family with young kids, i just made sure they had a nap! They were thoroughly entertained... More

On the plus side, there was a huge, comfortable bed. On the minus side - angled ceilings in odd places in both bedroom and bathroom (my 6'2" husband cracked his head several times). Restaurant was closing at 7.00pm so we dined at 6.00 in the bar - Sunday roast (left from lunchtime) hard potatoes, soft vegetables, very poor value for... More
