We stayed here for just one night on our way to a friend's wedding. It looked really inviting when we arrived with lots of colourful hanging baskets outside a very traditional looking pub. There is no reception area in the hotel, so we were advised before arriving to head to the bar area where we were quickly shown to our... More

just got home from this establishment after having a meal where the food was to the highest standard and service very good the company we were with also commented on the quality of food, When I think where we ate last week for £14 less it was well worth paying that little bit extra tonight as it worked out cheaper... My husband's Mum had heard about the oap/ lunch deal from friends/relatives. We were on holiday this week so we decided to take her there for lunch on Wednesday. Hubby and I have been in the evening before but not for lunch. Anyway it took us ages to choose two courses each from a very nice menu and the food... More

My wife and me decided to try the cook and barker after many years of hearing great reviews and seeing fellow travellers comments. The cook and barker is just off the A1 at the junction for Newton on the moor, and is mins from the turning, easy to find, and plenty of parking and outside seating area lovely setting and... More

this place is nice and peaceful, when we arrived we had to wait our turn at the bar to be given our room key( no reception) given general directions to the room in the annex...having found it we were pleasantly surprised by the newness of the room, plenty of space, very very clean and well appointed and being on the ground... Wow this is a busy place. Considering the lack of immediate chimney pots the restaurant was packed. First the moan. The service was initially very good but as the place filled up it was obvious the staff where under some pressure. The other thing that became apparent was how many tables they crammed in there. I was nudged on numerous... More

We had two meals here and both were fantastic. If you go male sure you make use of the early bird offer there was seven of us we had a starter and main plus a round of drinks for £110. The staff are excellent, we visited this area three years ago and did not try this place then, what fools,... More

The Cook and Barker delivers, without question, the best lunches for OAPs on a Thursday, anywhere in the country. The choice is very varied and the quality and service is faultless. I would recommend this hotel to any one passing on the A1.

We returned to the Cook & Barker for my father's 60th birthday on April 26th having originally visited in July 2012. The restaurant had been recommended by a family friend local to the area and really delivered on his recommendation. The decor of the restaurant is fantastic with traditional exposed beams mingling with LED floor lights. You enter directly into... More

Have just been on a return outing to the C&B for the Pensioners' Special lunch. This is priced at £10 for three courses and is brilliant. Not only is the value great but the food is excellent, the cask ales are good but also the service is top class.Well done to all concerned!
