Lovely hotel 1500m up in the mountains. We arrived and left during a storm, so didn't get to see much. I've been up there in the Summer, however and it's been glorious. Out of season the restaurant around the corner closes in the evening, so be prepared for a twisty drive down to Tejeda for food. Good hearty breakfast. Lovely cosy... More

We had a family weekend, 3 generatiions. The kids had superb time in the pool, playing billiards, and running around the garden. We adults enjoyed the peace, lovely sitting around the pool in the top of the mountains, surrounded by beautiful green vegetation! A cosy living room, where we watched the football match in the evening, mingling with the other... More

This hotel is in a great location at the top of a mountain range-traditionally furnished in a nice spanish style and economically priced. I stayed one night before flying home after a conference in the south of the island which was too hot for me. The height meant that it was much cooler and that suited me. The hosts were... More

I stayed here for one night in the middle of a walking tour of Gran Canaria with The Untravelled World (Spain). I'd walked from Juncalillo in about 4 h 20 min, the latter part of the walk being of stunning quality. I'd prebooked the hotel and it was quite pricey (£58 for just the room) but there are few options... More

We didn't stay at the hotel but had the chance to eat a fantastic meal at the Hotel Restaurant. They have both "european food" such as sandwiches, hamburgers and french fries but we siggest to try the canarian food. we had papas arrocas (small potatoes bolid with salt) with a fantastic mjo picon (a tipical chilly sauce) and chicken with... I turned up at El Refugio after dark, in the rain and mist in winter, and had no problem securing dinner, bed and breakfast for as long as I cared to stay. I wanted to be in the mountains, but for the best part of a week I barely got a glimmer of sunshine, just more rain and mist. However,... More

We went in winter so it may be different at other times. Before going be aware that the hotel is at 5000 feet - so often cloudy and wet and very cold. Also be aware that there is nothing else at Cruz beyond another bar and an occasional market. However if you are going for the walking it is absolutely... More
