Points of Interest

1. Start of Trail

Follow directions through back streets of Telluride. Tomboy Road is on the right at the end of Oak Street. ATVs should start at other end of trail from Ouray side.

2. View of Black Bear Pass

Look across valley to daunting switchbacks of Black Bear Pass.

3. Narrow Shelf Road

This section of road has been washed out in the past, but recent repairs have made it safe. Difficult to pass here. Remember uphill traffic has right of way. ATVs are not allowed on this section of road although you may see some illegal riders.

4. Tomboy Mines and Townsite

Stay left on the main route through townsite. Structures should be viewed from a safe distance. Over 900 people lived here as late as 1927. This is good place for ATVs to turn around and head back to Ouray side.

5. Imogene Pass Summit

Second highest drivable pass in Colorado. Gets cold up here even on the hottest summer day. Plenty of room to park.

6. Overlook of North Side

This is a great photo spot. Road through this section is very narrow. Pass with care.

7. Water Crossings on North Side

Crystal clear water crossings make trip down north side great fun.

8. High View of Camp Bird Mine

Once one of the most profitable mines in Colorado is now reclaimed.

9. Rock Overhang

You’ll pass under this dramatic overhang as you descend Camp Bird Road to Ouray.
