Points of Interest

1. Tamarack Entrance

The entrance is located at the end of Tamarack Drive in Union City. You can park at the road side. Enter the gate and you immediately see a trail junction in the front.

2. Junction to High Ridge Loop Trail

Turn RIGHT at the junction for High Ridge Loop Trail, cross a small bridge, hike uphill until you encounter the next junction by a pond. Hiking distance: 0.5 miles.

3. Junction to Tolman Peak Trail

Bear RIGHT at the junction for Tolman Peak Trail, pass a gate, cross several creeks and hike until you encounter the next junction. Hiking distance: 0.88 miles.

4. Junction to Tolman Peak Trail

Turn LEFT at the junction to continue hiking on Tolman Peak Trail, go uphill and follow the mail trail until you encounter the next junction on the top of the hill. Hiking distance: 0.82 miles.

5. Junction to Tolman Peak

Go STRAIGHT at the junction for 0.1 miles to find Tolman Peak on your right near the big tree.

6. Tolman Peak (997 ft. elevation)

A Douglas DC-6B hit the peak and cartwheeled into Dry Gulch Canyon below in 1951. After visiting the peak, take the same way back to the previoius junction.

7. Junction to South Fork Trail (same as #5)

At the junction, turn LEFT for South Fork Trail and hike for 0.4 miles until you encounter the junction before the oak woods.

8. Junction into the oak woods

Turn sharp RIGHT at the junction and hike into the oak woods along the gulch below until you encounter the junction after out in the clearing. Hiking distance: 0.9 miles.

9. Junction to Tolman Peak Trail (same as #4)

This is the junction you encountered before the moderate climb for Tolman Peak. Continue hiking the same way back for 1.38 miles to Tamarack Enreance.

10. Tamarack Entrance

This concludes the trip.
