Points of Interest

1. Starting point of the cable car (bondinho) to reach the first station.

The best way to get to the top of the peak is by cable car. You can get a ticket at the office here. It is possible (at time of writing) to buy a ticket for a cable car ride at night. This give you a wonderful view of the stars, and the lights of the city. A wonderful experience.

Ticket office opens at 8 am and close at 7.50 pm. Cable car... More

2. First station of the bondinho (cable car)

Breathtaking views on the Guanabara bay and praia vermelha.

In the main building, a film on the history of the construction of the cable car is shown.

Shows of Brasilian music are organized on the "Morro da Urca" in the building near the first station. (http://www.veraodomorro.com.br). You can buy the tickets at the main ticket office.

3. Final station

Enjoy the view!

From here you may see climbers. The climb to the top is quite tricky and steep, an you should not attempt this unless you go under the supervision of a local guide. There have been fatal falls in the past.

Far from the crow of Ipanema and Copacabana, the small "red beach" is famous for its situation between two famous hills in Rio: the Morro da Urca (1st stop of the cable car to the Sugar Loaf) and the Morro do Uribu (where the giant Brazilian flag that overlook Copacabana is located).

If the weather is not good enough to relax on the praia vermelha, you may catch a taxi to the RioSul shopping centre, the biggest shopping centre in the Zona Sul, with cariocas fashion and restaurants.
