Bommer Meadow's Trail is about 5.9 miles long (roundtrip) and located near San Joaquin Hills, California. The trail is great for... more » hiking and normally takes 1-3 hours.
Access by turning onto Shady Canyon Dr from Bonita Canyon. Follow Shady Canyon to Bommer Cyn parking, which will be on your right. There are only 14 parking spots. If lot is full, exit and continue down Shady Canyon to stop sign at Sunnyhill, and turn left onto Sunnyhill, left again into parking lot. There is public parking, and signs to trail are marked. If you start here, add .7 mile each direction (or 1.4 miles roundtrip) to the distances I give you below.
Great little walk/hike in Irvine CA. You can turn around early for a gentle 3.6 miles, or go all the way to the Ridge for a moderate 6 miles, or you can even continue where we double backed (see map), and go another couple of miles or so to the coast. From this starting point (Bommer Meadow lower parking lot, it is a gentle upward slope for the first 1.25 miles,
About a half mile into it, you do get a choice to go Bommer Meadow or Nature Loop, my hike was the Nature Loop. After about a mile +, you come to the farmhouse, and by that you get a .25 mile incline followed by a .25 mi decline on the hillside.
Once you are 1.8 miles into the walk/hike, take the West Fork (to your left), and it becomes uphill to the ridge, until you turn around. (There are one or two flat areas to ridge, but it is basically uphill).
The ridge that you hike up to is a TrailHead for several other trails leading down into El Moro Canyon. So you have all kinds of options at this point, if you want to add mileage. The nice thing is that it is mostly downhill back to your starting point.
Trails are good, wide, area is quiet. You do see several other hikers, runners and bikers on the weekends. Nice little outing that has easy access.
I placed a good link to a map of the area in the "other URL" section (see below) less «
