The Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhood is considered Montréal’s most bohemian area where visitors will find Bring-Your-Own-Wine ... more »(BYOB) restaurants, designer boutiques, outdoor cafes and bars and green spaces ideal for picnics and sunbathing. (Tip: Wine is sold at a SAQ, which is Montreal's version of a liquor store. Most BYOW restaurants, including those along Duluth Avenue, are within walking distance to a SAQ.)
The area also has some famous eateries such as Schwartz's where people line up for smoked meat sandwiches on rye bread with a pickle, and St-Viateur Bagels where people literally return year after year for the honey soaked creations.
After eating, you can work off any calories by walking along several of the neighborhood's main roads such as L'Avenue du Mont-Royal where you can window shop as you pass by trendy and locally-owned shops. Saint-Laurent and Saint-Denis are two other main thoroughfares worth strolling down.
The Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhood also has plenty of green spaces including Parc La Fontaine, a favorite spot in the warmer months, as well as in the winter when the park's man-made pond becomes a public ice rink. less «
