Spending time on South Padre Island during the off season (not during spring break) with a couple of winter texans (those yankees who invade every winter).
This place has the best hand made potato chips on the island. They are fried to perfection with a dusting of parmessan cheese. The drinks are also wonderful. Pair them up during happy hour with the chips and you have got yourself a great snack. Lunch and dinner is served here as well, but the prices go up the later you eat.
Outstanding oysters on the half shell for an outstanding price. Not only are the oysters delicious, so is the view of the waters at the southern most point of the island. So called Dolphin Cove because of the frequency in which dolphins appear just off the point, this is a premiere spot to drink, eat, and watch. This place is located in the Isla Blanca Park, but you can park outside and enjoy the walk in and work off your oysters, shrimp and the best cheeseburger on the island.
A restaurant dominated by the bar and stage located at the Schlitterbahn, a water park, that has great music provided by Leslie and Chuck. The shrimp was decent, but it was the good times and drinks that make this place a nightime excursion worth it. The ambiance is gleefully fishy and the view out to the water park is obliterated at night. This place rocks in it's solitude at the far south end of the island and with the help of Leslie and Chuck it is a don't miss.
Drinks on the water? This is as close as you can without donning a bathing suit or catching a ride on a boat. The bar and restaurant is actually on the pier and you can feel the waves against the beams beneath as you sit and enjoy a few drinks and some fantastic food. Oh yeah, they have some good entertainment too.
Sunsets and margarita's! This place has the most amazing and inspiring sunsets on the island. The food, above all the shrimp, is delectable. The drinks are served cold and fast. This place has a great open air bar and nightly specials. You catch it, they'll cook it too.
Sinful and sweet. This place has the best gelato around. The flavors are numerous and the taste is unforgetable. They have yogurt and smoothies too but you go for the gelatto once, you'll come back a million times more. There are several on the island, I prefer the one towards the north end of island with it's convienant location in a t-shirt shop.
Great local bar with an Irish flare. This place has darts, and a pool table. It's rowdy with the right crowd, and they even have a great menu. The nachos are great.
Quant and cute. This place is open only for breakfast and lunch. It's prices are extraordinary and the food is delicious. Try their omelettes with shrimp or lump crab meat. Southern style cooking with an island flare. The juice is fresh squeezed and the fruit is grown locally. Lots of food for such a low price.
The South Padre Island Chili Expo and the Isle Ditter Dog are both held at this great location. Bar and restaurant meet the bay. This place has another great sunset view and the food and drinks are great too.
