Not to Miss Attractions at Martha's Vineyard

Places to go on the lovely island of Martha's Vineyard...

  • 1. Menemsha
    Menemsha, Martha's Vineyard

Stop by this little fishing village around lunchtime and hit up the Menemsha Bite, my favorite clamshack (Bill Clinton likes it too!). Order the clam chowder and a fish sandwich and have a picnic out on the public beach or by the fishing boats. While you're there, stop by Larsen's Fish Market and grab that night's dinner.

  • 2. Ben and Bill's Chocolate Emporium

You'll find my personal favorite ice cream and candy shop on Circuit Ave. in Oak Bluffs. Stop by at night for an after-dinner treat and be prepared to stand in line. Be warned - they're really generous with the ice cream scoops!

  • 3. Aquinnah Lighthouse
    Aquinnah Lighthouse, Aquinnah, Martha's Vineyard

Check their schedule (call or look in the newspaper) to find out what times the lighthouse is open (usually during sunset hours on weekend evenings). Kids will enjoy climbing the spiral staircase and circling the balcony at the top.

  • 4. Bunch of Grapes Bookstore
    http://www.bunchofgrapes.com/index.php

This famous bookstore in Vineyard Haven is beloved by locals and tourists alike. Stop in and stock up!

  • 5. Chilmark Chocolates
    Chilmark Chocolates, Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard

This is a must for every chocolate lover, but make sure to check their schedule - they aren't open every day. Try one of everything... and try two of the truffles!

  • 6. Morning Glory Farm

If you're looking for some fresh corn to go with that night's dinner, stop by Morning Glory (just west of Edgartown) but go early to beat the crowds. If you're lucky, there will still be some homemade pies available...

  • 7. Flying Horses Carousel
Flying Horses Carousel, Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard

Got kids? Or are you still a kid inside? Either way you'll have fun reaching for the brass ring at the antique carousel in Oak Bluffs. A great evening activity for the family.
