Athens, Georgia: More than just a college town!!!

The perfect to-do list for ANYONE visiting.

  • 1. Five Star Day

    Southern cookin' at it's best !!! This restaurant is located in downtown Athens across from UGA famous arches

  • 2. Dipalma's

    The "Italian Bomb" of italian restaurants. This restaurant is also located downtown and on the east side of town.

  • 3. Add Drug Store

    This drug store has served lunch at it's bar forever. This is a great inexpensive place to eat in Five Points. After lunch, you can walk a couple of blocks to Hodgson's Pharmacy for HUGE .50 cent ice cream cone.

  • 4. Bear Hollow Zoo

    This is a small FREE zoo located off of Milledge Avenue. It's a wonderful place to take a picnic lunch. After walking through the zoo, you end up at a lake and playground. Here you can feed the ducks and have lunch. Great hidden gem in Athens.

  • 5. People watching from Starbuck's

    Starbuck's Coffee House is located directly across the street from UGA arches. This is a great place to relax and watch all of the wonderful people who make up Athens.

  • 6. University of Georgia

    UGA has great things for everyone to see and do: Gymnastic meets, baseball games, symphonys, art exhibits, etc., etc., etc.,. This list goes on ! Jump on the UGA website and find out what may be happening during your visit. Ticket prices are generally very reasonable

  • 7. Foundry Inn Day Spa and Hotel

    Wonderfully relaxing spa !!!

  • 8. 40 Watt Club and Georgia Theatre

    The 40 Watt and Georgia Theatre both host great musicians. Check there websites before your visit if you enjoy the music scene.

  • 9. Ashford Manor B & B

    This victorian B&B is located in Watkinsville, GA about 8 miles from Athens. It is magnificent and has a variety of musicians to play on the lawn once a week throughout the fall.

  • 10. Watkinsville, GA

    Watkinsville is a precious town 8 miles from Athens. It's downtown has several antique shops, boutiques, and locally owned restaurants. ALL of the people are friendly and kind. Of course I'm biased, It's my hometown!!!

  • 11. Happy Valley Pottery

    This pottery "community" is located 8 miles outside of Watkinsville. It is truly an artist community. You can find one of a kind pottery and even watch the artist make it. They also have a glass blower on site. Another hidden gem in the middle of nowhere. Worth the trip!!!! You will have ask a nice local for directions. It's off the beaten path.

  • 12. The State Botanical Gardens

    Beautiful FREE place to walk and admire nature. 3 miles from downtown Athens.
