Some tips for someone who has little time to spend in this lovely city. Take the tram #28 and enjoy the trip!
Start your journey in the square that took the name of a famous portuguese knight that had great influence in the siege of Lisbon. From here you can sight the famous Castle of Sao Jorge. Soon in your journey you'll get there....
Next stop: Miradouro Santa Luzia. Enjoy the magnificent view of Lisbon river named Tagus. Don't forget to take a look at the tiles panels, where you can see Praca do Comercio before the huge Earthquake (1755) and also the christians attacking Lisbon's Castle of Sao Jorge. While enjoying the beautiful view, take a look to your left down side: the narrow streets that you can sight belong to the oldest district of lisbon: Alfama. Don't miss it and enjoy the typical food!
A few steps close to Miradouro Santa Luzia you can reach Castle of São Jorge. The breathtaking view will push your senses to the limit!
Next stop: Sé.
Lisbon's cathedral is the oldest church with a mix of architectural styles.
Next Stop: Chiado.
this is one of my favorite places in Lisbon. I enjoy it particularly during Xmas time...
some of the most important literary figures of Lisbon are represented there... you should not miss the caffe "A Brasileira" (one of the most famous portuguese writters of all time - Fernando Pessoa - has a statue there), taking a walk down Rua Garret and take the Santa Justa Lift from where you can experience another magnificent view of the city(particularly the whole baixa-chiado neighbourhood)...
from CHIADO to BAIRRO ALTO you take 5 to 10 mins on foot. time to enjoy the narrow streets of one of the most famous and typical city neighbourhoods. Don't get lost! some streets are very similar...close to BAIRRO ALTO you have BICA funicular (worth a ride!)...close to the funicular you must go to Miradoura de Santa Catarina for sightseeing.
Next Stop: Estrela
enjoy the beautiful garden where a mix of generations cohabit in different ways...
right in front of the garden's main entrance you have the huge Estrela church that worth a visit!
LAST STOP: campo the ourique!
this is tram #26 end/start of the line. campo de ourique is a quiet and sympatic neighbourhood with a strong traditional commerce presence. hope you enjoyed the trip as much as i did!
