Good place for the price. Nothing too fancy, but it worked great for us. Once you get the lay of the land, it's in a good location.
Our first night there we drove around and looked for a place to eat. We tried Hobo's & I'm so glad we did. It's a very nice looking place with a casual feel. We got there at just the right time because they had the dinner menu up but were still serving off the lunch menu. It was also happy hour so we got a deal on our appetizer. We got the shrimp & it was nothing short of awesome. They were peal & eat with cajun seasoning so it was a little messy but tasted great. And the dipping butter was the cherry on top. I got a mahi mahi sandwich and my boyfriend got a crabcake sandwich. They were both excelent & very filling.
There's a lot of gift shops around Key Largo. Others, like Shell World and the World Parrot Mission are fun to look at & take pictures of, but this place and especially the store (I can't remember the name) across the street (not across the highway) from T-Shirt City had more of what I was looking for which was just little souvenirs for people and something small & possibly tacky for myself. Other places had more home decor if that's what you're looking for.
We made reservations well ahead of time but you don't have to put any money down. We got to the office to pick up the tickets and were told that the water was choppier than normal and they asked if we still wanted to go? We did the afternoon trip, which is usually three locations but we made two longer stops instead because of the weather. The water was very warm, but the air had got a little cold, so it was nice that they had wet suits for rent on the boat. ($5)
We found out the hard way that they're closed on Tuesdays. But if they hadn't been we might never have gone to Hobo's. So we went the next day after snorkeling. The place was really cool. Mostly all open. We sat right on the water. It wasn't exactly a romantic view or anything. There's a lot of boats parked out there, but I still enjoyed it. It's a very casual place. But they don't take plastic. So make sure you have enough cash. I brought $40 for the two of us & cut it pretty damn close but that included an appetizer.
