This is where I stayed. Read my review if you're interested
A large portion of the island is protected in this refuge. There is a several-mile long Wildlife Drive going through the refuge that can be navigated on foot or by bike or car. Bring bug repellent if you're going in late afternoon, which is a good time to catch birds settling in to roost. Tarpon Bay Explorers rent kayaks and give guided tours of Tarpon Bay.
This state park with miles of pristine beaches is available only by boat. Private charters are available and Captiva Cruises offers half-day and longer trips over.
A well-designed unique museum that features shells from Sanibel and around the world. Might be a good place to start the search for those famous Sanibel shells!
One of several public beaches on the island. Good place to look for shells, especially small ones, as it seems to be a major "washing-up" area. Parking available at $2 hour and restrooms.
An interesting place to visit and see the historic and still functioning lighthouse. Also a good possibility for shelling, but conditions will vary according to wind and weather. Parking at $2 hour (will take cards) and restrooms.
A sports bar/seafood restaurant. Best meal I had on the island.
An upscale resort on Captiva with marina, fitness center, large pool and spa. Across the road from the beach. (Staying at Beachview, their sister resort, gave me pool privileges.)
