1. Oviedo Art Museum
| This is a wonderful museum in an old palace that has expanded into another building. It has an amazing collection of works, almost all by Spanish artists, including many works by El Greco, Murillo, Ribera, Melendez, Valezquez, Sorolla, etc., as well a one painting each by Dali and Picasso. There is a haunting painting called "Oviedo" by Vaquero, who was born in the city, done in 1942, showing the city destroyed by fire. There are also fine works by Jose Maria Navascues, a local modern sculptor, who died in his 40s. |

2. Flea Market at El Fontain
| Sunday flea market, near the city market, is a colorful, local event with vendors outdoors selling a variety of items. I did not find anything to buy, but it is fun watching the people and mingling in this very local, weekly event. |

3. Impala Restaurant
| This is a very small, local, inexpensive, unpretentious place on Cabo St., near the San Francisco Park, that even on weekends serves a wonderful, 4 course menu del dia for 9 euros. I was a single person, but got a whole bottle of wine, a tureen of seafood soup, a large portion of empanadas with potato croquettes, a large plate of pot roast and chunky fries, and ice cream for dessert (two scoops)! There was enough food to feed 3 or 4 people--I even felt guilty because I did not finish everything served! If you want good, simple, inexpensive food rush to this place. |

4. Outdoor Sculptures
| The city has put a great deal of effort and money into wonderful scuptures, statues, etc. thoughout the city, ranging from classic to very modern. There is a Dali near the train station and many other striking ones, especially a very modern rear view of a woman (which many people photograph). |

5. La Competencia Pizza
| This is a very good Italian restaurant on Gascoma Street, south of all the sideria places, which were very crowded and overpriced. This place had a 9 euro menu del dia. I had a very good escalade marinara, which was like an antipasta salad with shrimp and crab, a specialty pizza made with cheese, thinly sliced tomato and covered with serrano ham. Bread, wine and ice cream were also included. A very good meal for not much money. |
