European Road Trip

Ask this member a question. black-cat-79 ** EDIT: We did a scaled-down version of this trip in August 2008. I'll post that itinerary separately in the next few days. ** We are currently planning a road trip around Europe, fitting in as many good places as is reasonable for 14 days...we think we have almost got it sussed...

1 Road Trip, 9 Countries, 14 Days, 2500 Miles...
1. Brugge
We start our trip by driving from Bristol, England to Folkestone, England, through the Channel Tunnel and up to Bruges. We stay here for 2 nights.

During our free day on Day 2, we will wander around the town and visit the Bell Tower and the Diamond Museum.
Morning of Day 3, and we drive to Luxembourg, stopping here for a bit to look round the town.
Then we continue down to Strasbourg.
3. Strasbourg
All being well, we arrive in Strasbourg early/mid afternoon on Day 3, so have the afternoon to look round the city.

We will start by visiting the Cathedral during daylight, and again whilst its lit up at night. If we have time we will also visit the Petit-France area of the city, or may visit this tomorrow morning.

1 night's stay here.
After the morning in Strasbourg, we continue our trip down to Konstanz, a small town on the shore of Lake Konstanz in Germany.

We stay here for 1 night.
We soon drive on to Vaduz for a quick look around the town, stopping at the Tourist Office to get our passport stamped!

We then continue to Innsbruck.
6. Innsbruck
We arrive in Innsbruck about lunchtime, and spend the afternoon looking round the city. Our priority destination is Bergisel, the ski jump towering above the city, offering great views of the valley and the mountains above.

1 night's stay here.
After a late start in Innsbruck, we travel down through Austria, Switzerland and Italy to arrive at our destination, Torri del Benaco, on the shore of Lake Garda.

We spend 2 nights here, allowing ourselves a free day to relax and explore the villages around the Lake.
After a day's rest at Lake Garda, we leave early and travel down to Genoa, arriving mid-afternoon.

We spend the afternoon exploring the old town and port.

1 night's stay here.
9. Monte-Carlo
After leaving Genoa early on day 9, we travel along the coast of the Italian Riviera, soon crossing the border into France. We continue driving round the coast, stopping at Monte Carlo to admire the yachts in the marina.
We arrive in Nice for our next night's stop.
Leaving Nice early in the morning, we arrive in Cannes in time for breakfast. We spend a short while star-spotting and then continue our journey. We have a long way to go today.
We eventually arrive at our destination - the Millau Viaduct, a very high road bridge crossing the Millau valley. After stopping for photos, we continue across the viaduct and onto our destination for the night.

1 night's stay here.
After a night's camping at Millau, we start early and drive up the middle of France. We arrive at Chartres as early as possible. Our reason for stopping here is to visit the very grand Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Chartres.
No trip to Europe is complete without stopping in Paris, which is the Grand Finale. We will visit as many of the famous sights as we can: Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Sacre-Coeur, Champs-Elysees, and so on.

After three days, its time to go home to Bristol, England, via Calais and the Channel Tunnel. Phew, what a trip it is going to be!
