Boston without a car is the only way to go. Why drive in Boston anyway? And where would you park? You can get almost anywhere by public transportation.

Park Street T stop on the red and green lines. Visitor Center and start of Freeom Trail are here. The Common is a large, lush green park. Don't miss the Frog Pond. Not for frogs. It's a wading pool in the summer and a skating rink in the winter.
Park Street T stop; red and green lines. 2.5 mile, 16 station walk through Boston's Revolutionary War sites. Colonial attired guides at Boston Common Visitor Center are excellent.
Arlington T stop on the green line or Park Street T stop on the red line (walk across Boston Common to reach Public Garden.) Beautiful flowers and plants. Also site of the famous swan boats.
Haymarket T stop on the orange line or Government Center T stop on the green and blue lines. Italian food. There's a restaurant every few yards. Don't miss Mike's Pastry on Hanover Street.
Prudential T stop on the green line. For $10.50 you can go to the 50th floor Skywalk Observatory for incredible 360 degree views. Price also includes audio guide.
Prudential T stop on the green line. Not just for kids. The WWII amphibious vehicles take you on an 80 minute tour of historic sites with an entertaining ConDucktor. The vehicle splashes into the Charles River for a short boat tour. They even let kids and adults drive the boat.
Museum T stop on the green line. You could spend the entire day admiring their vast collections. Don't miss the John Singleton Copley colonial era paintings.

Broadway T stop on the redline and then take city bus #9 or #11. You can also take redline to JFK-UMASS T stop and walk from Carson Beach along Dorchester Bay ( a good long walk - about 2.5 miles - but great views) Located in South Boston. Planes landing at Logan Airport dip low over this park. Fort Independence is also located in the park.
10. Massachusetts Bay Lines Whale Watch
Aquarium T stop on the blue line. 3 hour tour out to feeding grounds of humpback and fin whales. Great skyline views.
