What to See in Singapore

  • 1. Singapore Zoo
    Singapore Zoo, Singapore, Singapore

In particular the Night Safari. This is the best trip we have ever been on around the World. It is fascinating. The place is buzzing on arrival and is well organised. The food is quite good too, even though it is fast food it is reasonably priced and well presented. We went by ourselves this time as we had done the organised coach tour last time. We took a taxi from our hotel to the zoo which was an hour away and only cost £10 max. The tour starts with an electric tram around the park which is in total darkness. The guide tells you all about the animals and they are extremely close to you, with only moats and hedges separating the animals from you. The zoo is part of an international breeding programme and protector of endangered species. You can get off over half way round if you want to and walk the night safari. The trails include Snow Leopards, Fishing Cats and the Tiger Trail. All extremely interesting but a bit spooky in places! A must is the bat cave where the bats fly freely around your head! There are some big bats in here but to see them up close is fascinating. You can rejoin the tram if you wish to complete the tour or do it on foot. We chose the latter as we had done the full tram ride before. Either are excellent. You can spend as much time here as you wish. There is also an organised show at 8 pm, 9 pm and 10 pm but we don't like this sort of thing so didn't go to it so can't comment. The souvenir shops are very good with lots of choice and very reasonably priced. An absolute must is this attraction!

  • 2. Singapore Duck Tour

Tour of Singapore City by road and water. This tour is from Suntec City, Singapore and takes one hour. The "duck" is a converted army vehicle which can go in water and on land. The tour goes around the Raffles Square, Marina Bay areas by road and then drives into the water through the trees into the Singapore River. It is great fun and you can buy "duck" whistles to make it even more fun! The guides are all nutty and love cracking jokes but they are also very interesting. The trip along the river is lovely and peaceful and takes in the Merlion which is lovely to see from the River. Excellent value for money.

  • 3. Sentosa Island
    Sentosa Island, Singapore

An Island off Singapore which can be reached by road, ferry or cable car. The latter from Mount Faber. Sentosa is growing all the time with many new attractions being added. The beach areas have recently been upgraded with new restaurants, cafes, ice cream parlours and shops. Especially busy is the Fort Siloso beach, which adjoins the Rasa Sentosa Hotel. Many attractions to see to keep you going for more than a day. Especially moving is Dolphin Lagoon with the pink dolphins. These rare creatures can only be found in the South China Sea and Australia. There are only a few shows a day so get there early to book your tickets and get a good seat. Unlike Sea World in Florida, this show is only 20 minutes long and, even though, the dolphins do some tricks it is mainly about conservation and showing these beautiful creatures to the general public. You can buy tickets also to stroke the dolphins after the show again which is very moving. Also on Sentosa a must is Underwater World located outside of the Rasa Sentosa Resort. The best time to go is just before it opens and you have the whole place almost to yourselves. You must see Gracie the Dugong who was rescued as a baby as her mother was killed by a boat accident. She is a show off who loves to get as close to you as possible!
