Where to Eat in Waltham

Apr 27, 2006  I live so close to Moody Street, I can smell the food when I open my windows and my mouth waters.

Waltham has a lot of great places to eat. These are the places to hit, and why! I will continue to add to this list as I try new places.. this list compiles my favorite places to eat in the area.

  • 1. Margaritas Mexican Restaurant & Watering Hole
Margaritas Mexican Restaurant & Watering Hole, Waltham, Massachusetts

The free chips and salsa alone are worth coming for. Spicy salsa while you're drinking your frozen margarita makes this place worth coming to. The menu has many options, including healthy conscious choices. There is usally a wait for a table, or even a spot at the bar, but it's worth waiting it out. I love coming here.

  • 2. Tom Can Cook
    Tom Can Cook, Waltham, Massachusetts

Great for sit-down, awesome for take-out. Lots of great options. I've been very happy with the different things I've tried here. Clean atmosphere. Not your typical greasy Chinese food place. Probably my favorite spot on Moody Street.

  • 3. Iguana Cantina

Great Mexican food. Fun outdoor seating during the warmer weather. Free chips and salsa while you wait for your meal and a friendly croc to greet you when you come in. This place is fun and definitely worth a trip if you like Mexican food.

  • 4. Tempo
    Tempo, Waltham, Massachusetts

By far, the nicest place on Moody Street. Still new and very busy during the weekends, especially during the warm weather when the windows are open. Nice place for a coctail and delicious meals. They have a great specials list every night and sometimes have a jazz band playing. A great date place.

  • 5. The Skellig
    The Skellig, Waltham, Massachusetts

The sister to The Burren in Davis Square (Cambridge). They layout's the same, and the band still plays in the back. It tends to bring in a younger crowd, but it's a nice place to go for a fun night of dancing and having a good old time on a Saturday night.

  • 6. Watch City Brewing Company
Watch City Brewing Company, Waltham, Massachusetts

The names of their brews are worth coming to read. They can be very creative. I hear the menu has recently changed for the better and it is fantastic. The tuna melt is delicious and they offer a nice selection of entrees and sandwiches/wrap for every pallate and stomach size ;-) It's a nice low-key atmosphere here. Great place to come for a brew.

  • 7. Bison County
    Bison County, Waltham, Massachusetts

If you're a big BBQ fan, this is the place for you. They do it right here. They even have buffalo burgers. I particuarly enjoyed the snake eggs (appetizer).

  • 8. Sadie's Saloon & Eatery

Mouth watering steak tips, so tender and juicy. You can't go wrong here if you're not looking for a fancy place, just good food at a decent price.

  • 9. Grassfield's Food & Spirit
Grassfield's Food & Spirit, Waltham, Massachusetts

It's not on Moody St, but it's one of my favorite places to go. The rice pilaf is better than anywhere I've ever eaten (has onions and spinach in it). The scallops and steak tips are great too. Affordable meal and definitely delicious. Nice service too. It's a local joint, but there's a reason for that!

  • 10. Carl's Steak Subs

Best steak subs around. It's a take-out place, but worth the drive over to Prospect St. There are so many different steak subs to choose from. You'll want to keep coming back to try another version. Big subs too!

  • 11. Demo's Restaurant

For the best Greek salad and kabobs around, you'v gotta go to Demo's. It's right down the road from Main Street, on Lexington. Very affordable and delicious. It's nothing fancy, but that doesn't stop the crowds at lunch time. Definitely one of Waltham's best places to eat.
