My goal was to revisit attractions that I had seen during my first visit, and to discover new ones.

1. Schonbrunn Palace (Schloss Schonbrunn)
This has got to be everybody's highlight when visiting Vienna. This beautiful palace also has extensive grounds to explore: a zoo, hedge maze, palmhouse, deserthouse, waterfountains, restaurants, etc. Also take a tour inside the palace, the interior is just amazing!
2. Belvedere Palace (Schloss Belvedere)
Though this beautiful palace does not have such a large and interesting grounds as Schonbrunn, it's best attractions are inside. In the Upper Belvedere palace you will find the collections of 19th and 20th century paintings from the Austrian Gallery. In the Lower Belvedere palace, you will find artwork from Vienna's Golden Age. In The Organery, the Museum of Austrian Medieval Art.
Part of the Hofburg Complex in Vienna, this building houses one of the world's finest collections of artwork including prints by Durer.
Stroll through Stadtpark to take a look at the variety of monuments to musicians and artists. By far the most famous and best photographed is the golden statue of Johann Strauss.
The Hofburg Complex contains several museums, two churches - one of which the Vienna Boys Choir sings on Sundays, the Winter Riding School where you can watch the Lipizzaner Stallions, the Austrian National Library, the President of Austria's offices, the Butterfly House, and several large gardens.
6. St. Stephen's Cathedral (Stephansdom)
This has got to be one of the most easily recognizable cathedrals in the world, with its gothic spire and brightly coloured glazed tiled roof. Tour inside to see the works of art collected over the centuries: sculpted tombs, carved altars, etc.
7. Griechenbeisl Pub on Fleischmarkt Street
This cosy pub is a very well known landmark, and perhaps the oldest pub in Vienna. On the outside there is a carved wooden sign of a bagpiper, Dear Old Augustin, which legend claims he was thrown into a plague pit when he was mistakenly thought for dead (dead drunk that is) and played his bagpipes to be rescued. Inside there are a number of differently decorated rooms, and it serves traditional Viennese cuisine.
8. Venezia Restaurant Pizzeria on Karntner Street
This wonderful Italian restaurant, just a few blocks down from the Stephansdom at 10 Karntner St, has a large menu of pasta dishes and pizzas. It also serves great coffee as well. Inside it has a cozy room but go upstairs where you find a very large and bright room painted with murals of the Italian countryside. The washrooms also contain amusing murals in the stalls. The restaurant has a large outdoor patio as well where you can take in the sights.

I stayed at this hotel, just off the Graben pedestrian shopping street, in late May 2006.The location was great, I was close to the major shopping streets, the Stephansdom, the Hofburg, the Stephansplatz U-Bahn, the Opera House, etc. The service was good, the breakfast excellent, and my room on the top corner floor was bright, clean and spacious. It had by far the most comfortable bed during my 3 week trip to Europe! I had a 3 night package deal with them which included a 3 hour city tour one morning. It was a great idea, I got to meet a really nice guy from Perth Australia.
