Charlottesville VA on a budget

Aug 8, 2006
5.0 of 5 stars based on 4 votes

We're a 30's couple and have used this area as a fun getaway on sometimes a very tight budget. While we camped to save money, we did some real cultural things and this trip has gone down in history as one of our favorite ever.

  • 1. KOA Campground Near Wineries

While this place seemed off the beaten path - we loved the wooded feel and proximity to the wineries. We also loved the quaintness of their pool, nighttime activities and the cleanliness and newness of their facilities! Especially for those of us just tent camping.

  • 2. Monticello
    Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, Charlottesville, Virginia

  • 3. Charlottesville
    Charlottesville, Virginia

  • 4. Oakencroft Winery

We loved their July 4 festival and their Countryside Red - served chilled!

  • 5. When the going gets tough...the tough go shopping!

We loved the shops on Barracks Road for the more commercial shops we love - but downtown's walking mall include some fun places including The Cat House and Quilts Unlimited.

  • 6. Ivy
    Ivy, Virginia

  • 7. Ivy Corners and Ivy Garden Center

While these are two separate businesses they are both well worth the stop! The flowers are amazing but I think their giftshops are the bomb!
