1. Maracas Beach
|
|
| Maracas beach is around half an hour drive from Port Of Spain. It is preceded by a road with magnificent views of the Trinidadian North Coast and through an enchanting tropical forest. Stop for some local snacks in some of the sightseeing spots ( which unfortunately are parking lots with no services ). Maracas is not the ultimate caribbean beach, in most time of the years is kind of dangerous, but safe to use if you follow the warning flags for lowtides. But what makes this place worth to be visited is the fact that it is highly used by the trinidadians all year round, so you can enjoy firsthand what it means "liming" in this island. Nobody can go to Maracas without enjoying a taste of "bake and Shark" , a fish sandwich with spicy seasoning made with fried bread, if you have had "bake and shark" in the Queen's Park Savannah or at a local restaurant in Port of Spain, do not forget to have the real thing in Maracas bay. |

2. ASA Wright Nature Center

Located at 1,200 feet in the mountains of the Northern Range of Trinidad, the Asa Wright Nature Centre is a world-class natural history destination for students of tropical ecology and ifor professional and amateur birdwatchers, and also for everybody enjoying ecotourism. Trinidad is recognized as one of the island with the highest diversity and population of birds in the world.
Take a tour through one of the trails, guides are incredibly good and knowledgeable. If you have the chance, put yourself in the list for watching the Wacharos ( Oil birds ) in the cave nearby. Bring your swimsuit and dive in one of the beautiful small rivers and cascades around, or simply walk around and enjoy. |

| Queen's Park Savannah is the center of it all. One of the most powerful urban spaces in the Caribbean, there are many things to do around the Savannah. Enjoy a Cricket game, learn the rules with some of the local players. Go and see "the magnificent sevens", seven important caribbean houses, considered among the most regarded architectural heritage of the caribbean. The bothanical garden has a very good collections of palm trees, and the zoo is worth to be visited. Have cold coconut water, corn chowder or bake and shark in some of the street vending places. Ask about the carnival parade to any local citizen passing by, they will be delighted to tell you. Trinidadians live for their carnival. Or simply have a nap on the lawn watching the northern range. |

5. Dinning around the Savannah

The culinary experience in Trinidad is also very good. After a good lunch - I would suggest a Shrimp Roti from The Hut Shoppe- go dinning at the many restaurants around the Queen's Park Savannah.
Aksara and Tharak Thai shared the same location. Both are fantastic restaurants, I Aksara, my favorite is a East Indian Restaurant, with a beautiful decoration and excellente service. Price is moderate, expect to spend 50-75 dollars for a complete meal with appetiser, wine and dessert.
Battimanzelle in nearby Coblentz Avenue, is definitely the best restaurant when it comes to a grateful taste experience, But when it comes to money, it is very pricy, expect to pay 75-100 dollars for a complete meal. However, every time I go to Trinidad, i give myself the pleasure to go there.
The Kapok Hotel has a thai Restaurant in the top floor, views are very good and food is good also, and the price is very fair for the great variety of thai food they have.
If you are into Chinese food, go to Jennys on Cipriani Boulevard, is very good and inexpensive. They have a very good bar in the basement where you can meet the local crowd. |
