1. Courtyard Hotel Rome Airport

Great place to start or end your trip. Hotel is a bit nicer than a lot of the American Courtyard hotels, pleasent staff. Walking distance (a bit of a hike, but doable) to the little seaside town of Fiumicino, where we had excellent fried calamari and caprese salad. Excellent breakfast buffet, and my Italian husband said it had some of the best coffee we had the whole time we were in Italy. Both hot and cold meats, fruit, etc.

| Main train station in Rome - and an interesting place to visit as well. Great people-watching! Also catch busses to anyplace you need to go in Rome. |

| Near Campo de' Fiori. Really excellent seafood, sit outside if you can so you can people-watch. Just beware of gypsies who may attempt to steal your bags, or at the least beg. The waiters will chase them off. |

| Little hotel convenient to the port of Marina di Carrara and also to Carrara itself. Could use a little renovation, but you can't beat the view of the marble mountains from the breakfast room, and you can watch the cranes operate in the port. Good beds, friendly service. Close to the main piazza, where you can find good food at Buon Gusto and gelato and espresso from several locations. |

| Highly recommended location for traditional baked goods, including panne forte, panne dolce, colomba. We will definitely be back. |

| Wonderful small restaurant, with local dishes and friendly service. Eat outside if you can, surrounded by flowers. The restaurant fronts on the main street into Rocca Grimalda, and so you will see everyone going by. The town hall is right across the street. Best ravioli we had - so good we went back three times, and took my husband's sister and brother in law. |
