Things to see & do in Oakland

  • 1. Jack London Square, City Center & More

    Jack London Square with fine restaurants, California's finest jazz club in Yoshi's, shops, book stores, water front activities, farmers & artist market (Sunday 9:00 to 2:00), Marina, ferries, FDR's old restore Yacht, movie theaters, courtyards, free entertainment makes this area the San Fransisco Bay's second most popular attraction after SF's fisherman's wharf. With food selections from a full range of sea foods, Great Sunday brunch's such as at the Fat Lady, great Rib joints with blues entertainment, gourmet hamburgers & all ethnic delights imaginable makes for a great day. Several excellent hotels in the area in all price ranges. Near by is Oakland's growing & "real" Chinatown with many fine cafés & marvelous architecture. Old Town Oakland with it's restored buildings, numerous cafés, Ratto's Italian deli a Oakland institution for over 75 years, Mexicali Rose the oldest Mexican restaurant in the bay area, new housing development make for a wonderful area abutting Chinatown. Next to this is the reclaimed City Center with wonderful plazas, the new Federal & State towers, shops, restored Victorian Mansions & home to the Oakland Labor day Weekend Blues Festival. This festival attracts over 250,000 people over it's three day run. Come on down & enjoy Oaktown!

    Trendy upscale area with mostly independent shops, cafés, stores & a great area to walk, sip coffee & meet people. The Avenue has it all.Trendy shoe stores dress shops, many book stores, movie theaters, gourmet food stores, interesting architecture. Bay Wolf a Bay area top ten restaurant for over 20 years. Greek, Italian, Mexican, American, Asia & European food. This street runs blocks with every block full of interesting shops & cafés.

  • 3. Oakland's Crowning gem

    Lake Merritt with it's pathways, bird sanctuary, boating, beach, fauna, & Flora is ringed by lovely high rise apartment houses, stately Mansions & many interesting shopping ares makes this area a delight to visit. Literally thousands of joggers & walkers make the almost 3 mile circuit of this beauty. Canoes, row boats & sail boats are availer for rent. Scull boat racers practice on it's clean waters. Picknic areas, benches, playgrounds, horse shoe pits, botanically gardens, Children's Fairyland all make for a wonderful area to spend a day.
