A weekend for two - ONLY two! A getaway wish list in my second favorite city (I live in my first favorite city). I love to dream of the perfect weekend where money is not an issue - OK, OK money could be an issue - hehehe.

1. The Overseas Highway = MM 1 to MM 194
The Overseas Highway, Key West, Florida Keys
Day 1 - Verrry earl Friday morning - departure.

Exactly (according to MapQuest) 193 miles and 3 hours 48 minutes after we pull out of our condo in Key West - we would be at the hotel in Fort Lauderdale.

EXCEPT...............

We will be driving straight to Billie's Swamp Safari for a long overdue AIRBOAT ride - see next item. ("WE" is a figure of speech - "I" will be driving this leg of the trip - the "WE" half will be sleeping - snicker, snicker).
2. Air Boat Ride at Big Cypress Seminole Reservation
Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum, Clewiston, Florida
First on the list (and I mean "on-the-way" to the hotel) - we are gonna take an AIRBOAT RIDE! I can't believe that I've lived in Florida for 20+ years and still have not gone on a ride. Shame on me - LOL!

How could I stay anywhere else! Why would I want to....perfect place for a perfect price. I'm sure I will be tired so I would ask the Hotel staff for a recommendation for quiet dinner and cocktails to top off our first night.

Check-in late afternoon or early evening - If nothing forces a bend or flex in our travel plans - hehehe! (I prefer to say "bend & flex" rather than "Friday night-in-Miami-traffic or flat tire" - its much more vacation-ee)

Friday Evening

I gotta walk to the beach on the first night - its a law - OK maybe just my weird "TO DO" item. This is where I will spend Saturday morning and early afternoon hours so I would preview the beach.

Day 2 - Saturday

I will start my Saturday morning with a run on the beach followed by a swim and reading my book in the sun.

BOOK = National Geographic's Guide to Scenic Highways and Byways (for the trip back home). I recommend "Last Train to Paradise" by Les Standiford if you haven't read it.

After a few hours of Florida sun on Saturday, I'd plan to drop by the Elbo Room...maybe just for one....and of course to visit an historic building.

Absolutely, positively a MUST DO for us while in Ft. Lauderdale. Using the water taxi is a great way to get around but but taking a river tour is on the agenda too!

Monday afternoon 10:30ish

On the road again...only this time we'll take it slow and stop along the way (and I won't be driving). I'll be busy figuring out where to stop for pictures, food and maybe a libation for me! The sun will be behind and overtop of us so we'll be able to "see" the sites. I'll choose places to stop where we have never been - and maybe some of our favorites. We'll use Card Sound Road on the way back - just for a change of scenery.
