A day on the Andrea Jensen was far and away the best boat trip I have ever been on. We met the boat at the entrance to Alghero harbour and we were amazed at how beautiful she really was after having just seen photos before. The crew were a really friendly English couple who introduced everyone and offered us drinks staight away. It just felt wonderful being on board with wide wooden decks to lay out and sunbathe. We were so lucky on the way out we saw 2 dolphins who came and played under the bows. You could sit in a net right at the front and watch them swimming directly beneath you, what a magnificent experience, the first time ever for me. The coast was spectacular and we went right around an island which was a bird sanctuary. Lots of cormorants diving off the rocks. Anchored in a beautiful bay and went snorkelling. Then had a lovely lunch with wine and a bit more sunbathing. We all helped hoist the sails for the journey back and sailed in peaceful bliss back to Alghero. What made the trip memorable was the hospitality of the crew and the eperience of sharing their truly beautiful boat with them. A wonderful relaxing day amongst a small friendly group of people. We booked by phone 0039 3389708139 and they have a website www.ajsailing.com

This was a 4wheel drive escursion that I can really recommend. Claudio the owner can alter the itinary to suit your wishes. We had already driven to Capo Caccia so he took us right up the mountain for a glorious view over the whole bay and then to Porto Ferro,Lake Baratz and Argentiera. We could really feel the pride he has for his island and the countryside. You reach places you would never know of and learn a lot from him. He is very obliging and will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel. An excellent day out.

3. A great walk

We found a very good walk starting from Porto Conte. You can drive to the start, following the road to Porto Conte, just past the marina on the right is the entrance on the left, where you can park. Or you can catch a blue bus from Alghero to Porto Conte. The bus should stop at the marina but finshes anyway at the Hotel El Faro which is a short distance up the road. It is easy mostly level walking up to Punta del Giglio. You can stay on the track right up to Punta Giglio where there are some old 2nd world war barracks. There is a magnificent view of Capo Caccia and the bay of Porto Conte. If you wanted to swim on the way you can make a detour down to the sea where there are some great rock pools. It is a very sheltered pleasant walk through pines and the coastal macchia. It is about 7kms and should take 2 hours, unless you stop for a picnic or swim. A good walk that is easy to get to.
