A perfect week in Northern Ireland

If I were traveling to Northern Ireland for the first time this would be my ultimate itinerary for the week.

  • 1. Day 1: Antrim
    County Antrim, Northern Ireland

County Antrim is probably Northern Ireland’s most popular tourist destination. With its lush, rolling farmland and picturesque coastal drives, this area comprises some of the most beautiful landscape in Europe. The shores of Lough Neagh are a perfect place to engage in a variety of water sports.

  • 2. Day 2: Belfast
    Belfast, Northern Ireland

Home to a third of the population of Northern Ireland, this bustling port city has innumerable attractions for travelers. The beauty of the city’s architecture tells a story of the region’s rich and sometimes troubled history. Whether you are looking for arts and cultural attractions or a bit of sparkling nightlife, Belfast delivers.

  • 3. Day 3: Drive Causeway Coast to Derry
Causeway Coast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom

The Causeway Coast between Larne and the Giant Causeway follows sixty miles of magnificent coastline carved with spectacular bluffs, bays, lush forests and the peaceful glens of Antrim.

  • 4. Day 4: Derry
    Derry, County Londonderry

With its 17th Century ramparts and cannons, Derry is a remarkable city where you can explore the tumultuous history of Northern Ireland in the Tower Museum or enjoy the nightlife along Waterloo Street.

  • 5. Day 5: Sperrin Mountains
Sperrin Mountains, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland

The gentle contours of the Sperrin Mountains provide a beautiful area to go hiking and take in the fresh, clean Northern Irish mountain air.

  • 6. Ness Wood
    Ness Wood, Derry, County Londonderry

On the way from Derry to the Sperrin Mountains, take a moment to enjoy this breathtaking sight of the Burntollet River cascading 30 feet over Northern Ireland’s highest waterfall.

  • 7. Day 6: County Fermanagh, Irvinestown
    County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland

This lake land county is a perfect area for fishing and exploring the beauty of the Irish countryside. In Irvinestown you should be sure to check out The Hollander which features a diverse menu of local fish, produce and a number of excellent vegetarian dishes.

  • 8. Day 7: Enniskillen Castle
    Enniskillen Castle, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh

At this historic castle and museum in Enniskillen you can learn about the Gaelic Maguire Chieftains and discover the rich history of ancient Northern Ireland.
