A wonderful place to spend the day. Fun for all ages. Fireworks on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Live music in the beer garden daily. Plenty of shopping and dining options and a nice amusement park with mini golf, a ferris wheel and other rides. Wonderful opportunities for boating adventures on Lake Michigan. We took the Windy, a Tall Ship and enjoyed the sunset aboard the ship, where you can actually lend a hand. Cheap fun for all ages. Boat rides range from $12 and up. Our trip costs $27.00 a person.
No trip would be complete without a visit to Wrigley Field, America's 2nd oldest ball park. Wrigley is unique not only for it's age, but it's outside the park seating. While enjoying a ballgame, a must, don't forgo the chicago dog...what an experience. Easily assessible by train. Don't miss this one.
3. Museum of Science and Industry
A wonderful place to wander. Very interesting exhibits come here every year in addition to the ones they have on permanent display. This year they are one of the few cities to get the Tut exhibit. Don't miss the Coal Mining and World War II U2 Boat exhibit. This museum can be purchased in a package with several other places of interest. A great value.
Someone had a wonderful vision here. This park is located just off Michigan Avenue and on the free summer trolley line. Wonderful day time place to visit and on a hot summer night a great fountain in cool off in. The Crown Fountain is so awesome. Live music on the grass at the pavillion, Art Exhibits, The Bean, beautiful flower gardens. A safe place even at night. Bring a picnic and enjoy the lawn. Free fun.
Within a short train ride or drive is this beautiful community known for the Frank Lloyd Wright houses and the birthplace and museums of Hemingway. A wonderful place to visit, walk, see the houses, dine. Tickets are necessary and house viewing is done in time slots. Purchase the cta discount and see 5 places for $20.
So you say you like festivals. Well here is where you'll find them and they are all summer and free. We were there in June so we took in ght Blues Festival. You can bring a blanket or a chair and sit on the lawn or take a seat located near the stage. Plenty of vendors to offer food and beer can be purchased. They also have Jazz Festivals, Food Festivals and more.
