Did research on a 10 day trip from Liberia to San Jose and couldn't find much so thought I would share our recent trip experience. Goals: Beach time, see a lot without being too rushed, Rafting, Ziplining, Hot springs and some nicer places for my wife.

3 Nights Stay. Drove here in rental car from Liberia (about 1 1/2-2hrs) Took a bit longer because we used Google which is not accurate in CR. Stopped at grocery store for snakcs and water on the way (near Liberia airport) Kids loved the hummingbirds, botanical garden, warm thermal pools and wooden cabins. Also swam in the crystal blue river w/in walking distance from the hotel and did a horseback ride/ waterfall hike. Could not hike the volcano since it is closed due to strong activity, but still plenty to do.

2 Night stay. (Left at noon the last day) Relaxing hotel with amazing hot springs. Nice change after the more remote Blue River near Rincon de Viejo. Views of Arenal and lake. Took better part of the afternoon to drive here. HOT SPRINGS ARE AMAZING _ a must visit if in the area.

  • 3. Arenal Mundo Aventura

1/2 day w/hotel pickup from Tabacon. Great zip lne adventure with 11 lines that go through and over the canopy. Not as adrenaline induced as some others, but great waterfall views. Zipline goes right over La Fortuna waterfall. Wife doesn't like heights and she was fine. My 2 sone loved it! Would highly recommend.

  • 4. Tulemar Bungalows & Villas
Tulemar Bungalows & Villas, Manuel Antonio National Park, Province of Puntarenas

3 night stay. LONG drive from Arenal on winding road (about 6 hrs with stop for lunch at local mountain restaurant) Might want to break this up a bit, makes for a long day, but enabled more vacation time once there. Loved Tulemar/Buena Vista Suites - read positive reviews they are true! Relaxed at beach, in the hammocks, wave boarded and kayaked and saw lots of wildlife at the hotel. Close drive or 5-20min walk to Manuel Antonio restaurants.

1/2 day adventure including 45min ride to river. White Water rafting class 2- 3 1/2 on Savegre river. had snack and breaks at the waterfall. Picked us up at hotel (Tulemar) Guides showed us the local animals and plants on the way. Good for all ages with a nice mix of rapids and relaxation. (We booked a different river(Naranjo), but they changed us to this one due to the lower water levels at Naranjo.Happy with change.

North from Manuel Antonio about 1 hour. Changed to here so we would have a shorter drive to San Jose Airport than in Manuel Antonio to catch our 1pm flight. Empty beaches with powder-like sand and total relaxation before heading home. Kids had fun collecting sand dollars on the beach. Beautiful ocean views from the room and nice sunsets. can see the beach to North and South horizon and maybe0-2 people total on the beach. Can also take surf lessons here. (about a 2 1/2 hour ride to SJO. Also within 20min of Jaco if you want to do souvenir shopping before you leave..
