A perfect week in Cameroon

Cameroon’s major port city is the country’s primary economic center with extensive docks and plenty of industry. The Akwa district is a vibrant area with several excellent restaurants. The Musée de Douala has a collection of Bamoun and Bamileke art worth seeing, and the nearby Place du Gouvernement boasts a lovely pagoda. Douala is a great base from which to take day trips to nearby resorts.

Located just outside of Douala, Limbe is a fantastic beach resort that is also home to lovely botanic gardens. The beaches get pretty crowded during the weekends with day trippers from Douala, but are less crammed during the week. Mile Six, a nearby beach just outside of the town of Limbe, offers a nicer black sand beach than the somewhat rough beach in Limbe.

For some more exciting activity and some of the most breathtaking views that Cameroon has to offer, Mount Cameroon, known as Mount Faka to locals, is a fantastic place to go hiking. This active composite volcano is the highest mountain peak in Central and West Africa and is home to a number of fascinating bird and plant species.

Northwest of Mount Cameroon along the Nigerian border is Korup National Park, a lush rainforest home to the greatest variety of tree species on the African continent. The park is also home to a multitude of animal species, including elephants, buffalo and chimpanzees as well as over 300 species of birds.

South of Douala on the Atlantic coast, the white sand beaches of Kribi are a perfect place to relax in the sun and get a tan.

Cameroon’s capital city is a bustling city home to some interesting museums and universities, as well as the presidential palace and compound. There are a number of interesting markets in the city, such as the markets of Mora and the city’s largest market in the African quarter of Moloko. Many embassies are also found in Youande.

With its rooftop terrace offering a great view of the city and Mount Febe, this is a relaxing place with a great staff and an even better price.
