Colorful canyons for climbing!

Jul 4, 2012  A daughter in search of Jr. Ranger badges and a family who loves to hike
0.0 of 5 stars based on 0 votes

We love to hike and view the glory of nature step by step. The National Parks are a perfect way to see those great places. This trip included Zion NP, Bryce Canyon NP, Pipe Springs NM, and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon

  • 1. Las Vegas
    Las Vegas, Nevada

Flight into Las Vegas and then rented a car to drive to Zion NP

  • 2. Cliffrose Lodge & Gardens
Cliffrose Lodge & Gardens, Springdale, Utah

Beautiful lodge in Springdale where we were in walking distance to Zion NP. Loads of flowers and wildlife in the gardens at the hotel. Best room of our entire trip! We love Springdale, UT

  • 3. Zion National Park
    Zion National Park, Utah

One of our favorite parks! The rangers were wonderful and the shuttle system was excellent. It was beautiful and a place we will certainly return to one day. We spent 3 night in the Zion area and could have stayed longer.

  • 4. Observation Point
Observation Point, Zion National Park, Utah

A must do hike! Amazing view of the entire canyon and worth the steep climb. This is on our family list as one of our all time favorite hikes.

  • 5. The Narrows
The Narrows, Zion National Park, Utah

Start early and this is a great hike. We rented the shoes, socks and poles and were very glad we did when we felt the water. Beautiful canyon walls.

  • 6. Bryce Canyon National Park
    Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah

We spent 2 nights in the Bryce Canyon area. The park was very different from Zion. There is very little water and a higher elevation. The Sky Party at the visitor center is a must do! If you have child who love the Jr. ranger program ask for the night sky patch book here. They don't offer unless you ask. The prairie dogs are awesome. Of course the hoodoos are spectacular.

  • 7. Bryce Canyon Pines
    Bryce Canyon Pines, Bryce, Utah

This a modest hotel. The area just outside the park is owned by a single family who has been in the area since before the park. This is a little farther away but not too far. The pool is nice. The restaurant is excellent and is a must even if you don't stay here.

  • 8. Navajo/Queens Garden Loop
Navajo/Queens Garden Loop, Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah

We combined with other trails to make a longer hike. Amazing hiking in the hoodoos. Take plenty of water!

  • 9. Pipe Springs National Monument

A wonderful national park on the way to Grand Canyon. Highly recommend this wonderful site

  • 10. Grand Canyon North Rim
Grand Canyon North Rim, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Beautiful views that will take your breath away.

  • 11. Kaibab Lodge
    Kaibab Lodge, Jacob Lake, Arizona

Convenient but very basic. Ask for a cabin that isn't connected to another cabin. We stayed 2 nights here because no room was available on the rim.

  • 12. Grand Canyon Lodge - North Rim
Grand Canyon Lodge - North Rim, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Perfect little cabin! Stay here if you can. Book very early.

  • 13. Widforss Trail
Widforss Trail, United States, North America

Beautiful fairly flat rim trail with amazing views. 5 miles out and then back. Can be crowded on first section of the trail.

  • 14. Cape Final Trail
Cape Final Trail, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Such an easy trail and yet no one was hiking it in the busy season. The views were the best we saw and is one of the few place where you can see the Colorado River from the North Rim. Perfect for and easy day hike.

  • 15. Las Vegas
    Las Vegas, Nevada

Not a family destination! The M & M store was our only fond memory. After a week in solitude it was sensory overload.

  • 16. Hampton Inn Tropicana
Hampton Inn Tropicana, Las Vegas, Nevada

Clean, casino free hotel with shuttle to the strip. This was perfect for our 1 night in Las Vegas before flying home.
