  • 1. Hotel Sari Konak

  • 2. Ferry the Bosphorus

    Taking a ferry along this strait between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara is one of the most fascinating ways to become familiar with this area. The strategic waterway separating Europe from Asia serves as a divider between East and West.

    No trip to Istanbul is complete without a visit to the Grand Bazaar and the neighboring Spice Bazaar, an enormous maze of shops, cafés and stalls in Turkey’s largest souk. Within the dozens of alleys you will find gorgeous Turkish carpets, traditional handicrafts, historical restaurants, glazed tiles, brassware, copperware, pottery, leather apparel, souvenirs, spices, hookah pipes and t-shirts. There is a great mix of tourist shops and local vendors, giving the whole place an air of authenticity. Be sure to get a map; this market is very large and can be confusing.

    This cobblestone street, reminiscent of a Parisian boulevard, is home to a number of fantastic restaurants and cafés perfect for a dinner break. There are also many theaters if you want to catch a film.

    This district on the north bank of the Golden Horn is known for its exciting bars and cafés. The Galata Mevlevihanesi, a Whirling Dervish hall, hosts the Mevlevi dervishes, and a number of posh shops are open into the evening for shopping.
