Sunrise to Sunset with your Sweetie in Seattle

Jun 2, 2006  As a lifer in Seattle I know the best things here are nearly free.
3.0 of 5 stars based on 4 votes

Summer Day on a Budget.

  • Category: Perfect day
  • 1. Sunrise

Find yourself up at the crack of dawn? The best view of Seattle (and photo op) is located in West Seattle on Admiral Way at the viewpoint. All of downtown will be in the background. From there head west on Admiral Way to the Starbucks for your coffee and then to Zatz Bagels just a block west on California Way.

  • 2. Beach!

Okay now don't eat the goodies yet and drive west on Admiral Way to 63rd and turn to your right-2 blocks, park and head for the beach. Alki Beach has miles of walking paths with the best view in the city. You can rent blades here or eat more at the Alki Cafe.

  • 3. Cruise

This is amazing. You can catch a free shuttle bus (or walk) to the water taxi dock & catch the boat for a ride on the sound to downtown Seattle for just 3 bucks. Get a transfer and the ride back will be free if you return within an hour. Check out the Olde Curiosity Shop and reboard the water taxi for the return ride.

  • 4. Go Fish...no silly, to eat, not to catch.

Alki Fish and Crab has great fish and chips at the dock. Theyllaso give kyak tours or rent bikes. Sunfish at Alki has the special of the house a kabob. You can take it across and enjoy it at the beach.

  • 5. Swimming

Of course you have your swim suit! There is an outdoor pool (Coleman)just south of Alki Beach at Lincoln Park. Drive south along Beach Drive to reach it. There are 2 large parking lots and trails down to the water where the pool is located. After swimming you can go in your most casusal attire to Endolyn Joes' Restaurant at 9261 45th SW. The menu here is always changing with a theme both in decor and flavor.

  • 6. Stroll the Junction!

West Seattle has 3 junctions, this is the largest the Alaska Junction and you guessed it it is located at Alaska & California Ave. On Sundays from 10-2pm there is an outdoor farmers market here with everything from fruit to nuts! If you missed getting something to eat you can run into the Husky Deli and they will make you a great sandwich and you can enjoy a cone of one of the many flavors of ice cream they make. Something nicer, you say, OK, for dinner there is Jaks for steak or next door is The Matador. There are lots of shops to cruise through here, take in a few.

  • 7. Live Music!

The West Seattle area has a lot of small places serving up live music. West 5 at 4539 California ,some coffee houses , Salty's on Harbor Avenue (beach).
The Celtic Swell at 2722 Alki Ave., and so on. You can just drop in for a few tunes.
