The best things I can find to do in Jacksonville, in no specific order.
Cool variety of animals to learn about.
Nice new outdoor mall with a good number of shops and decent chain restaurants. Probably the nicest mall in Jax if that's what you're looking for.
Technically in Jacksonville Beach, but they make VERY good subs. Make sure to try the sauce that's on every table - it's delicious.
One of the nicest beaches I've ever been to. Lots of sand, not ever very crowded. There's free parking that usually fills up by midday, but just drive around for a little while and you should find a spot.
A nice place on the St. Johns River that has a few shops and places to eat. It's one of the main attractions downtown. There's also a walkway that goes from in front of the landing along the river which can make for a nice walk.
Interesting place to eat, maybe do a little gambling if you're so inclined.
Miles of trails to run or walk on all throughout a nice nature preserve. Be careful of the many tree roots on the paths. Opens at dawn and closes at dusk, you could spend a couple of hours here if that's what you're looking for.
Very talented group of musicians who play a range of music. Tickets usually aren't hard to get a hold of. Plus, if you have a student ID you can get in for $5.
Somber tribute to veterans.
Lots of free lectures and sporting events at a low price. The lectures often require a ticket, so check their website before you go.
