  • 10. Journey from Manila to Tagaytay

    Maundy Thursday, April 5 2012
The adventure begins when we checked out of The Bayleaf on Maundy Thursday asking them to help us get a metered taxi so that we can take a bus from EDSA rotunda to Tagaytay.
As it turns out, the metered taxi wanted to send us to Tagaytay for thousands of pesos. He unwilling sent us, and half-way decided to drop us off the TAFT highway. We insisted that he sends us back to our hotel. From there, we took another taxi.. The same thing happened, but I insisted that he sends us to the EDSA rotunda. He unwillingly did. So we finally managed to hop on the Manila-Batangas Batman Express bus (only Php 156 for 2 persons). Somehow, God is good. After every trial comes the rainbow.
We were fortunate to be sitting next to a nice Christian Filipino lady who lives in Silang. She explained that we are taking the coastal route, past Imus, Dasmarinas, Silang. I was surprised to learn a huge Korean community in Silang. the lady has 5 boys and 1 girl. She runs a language centre and an apartelle. She was so helpful and even advise us where to alight. I could sense that she is a God-sent angel.
She doesn't attend church regularly, but I can sense God's presence in her heart.

  • 11. Tagaytay
    Tagaytay, Cavite Province

    Maundy Thursday, April 5 2012
City of Tagaytay, the highest point of Cavite, Philippines. Tagaytay City is known as the grand viewing deck for the smallest volcano in the world, Taal Volcano. It is also a place of solitude and relatively characterized by low temperature, low humidity and abundant rainfall.

  • 12. Taal Volcano
Taal Volcano, Batangas Province, Calabarzon Region

    Maundy Thursday, April 5 2012
    World's smallest volcano......
Awesome sunset @ volcano in a volcano! See review.

Our tricycle driver, Chris, is God-sent and really awesome! He is NOT a guide but he is a honest and cheerful driver. His tricycle is well-maintained too! I highly recommend him for travelling around Tagaytay. Mobile: (0907) 9735736. For international calls, +63 907 973 5736

Here's the going rate from Tagaytay Rotunda to :
    1. Moon Garden - Php 30
    2. Talisay (for banca boat to Taal Volcano) - Php 300
He brought us to Leynes Resort, at Leynes Talisay, Batangas for the boat ride.

I am pretty sure if you contact the resort directly, they will arrange for transportation from Tagaytay. Call Amy of Leynes Resort at 0920-3142637 or 0919-9908472

  • 13. Tootsie's Restaurant

  • 14. Moon Garden

  • 15. Peoples Park In The Sky
Peoples Park In The Sky, Tagaytay, Cavite Province

    Good Friday, April 6 2012
Don't bother wasting your time here. It is in a sorry state. The view is great but you can get the same view in other parts of Tagaytay.

  • 16. The Adoration Chapel of the Pink Sisters

    Good Friday, April 6 2012

Absolutely lovely gardens and chapel. Very crowded on Good Friday. Close to Moon Garden but not walking distance.

  • 17. Angels Hills Retreat and Formation Center
    http://www.angelshills.com.ph/

Founded in 1999, the two hectare lot of Angels Hills Retreat and Formation Center is conveniently located along Aguinaldo Hi-way, right next to Pink Sisters.

  • 18. Casa Amapola Manila
Casa Amapola Manila, Makati, Metro Manila

    April 6 2012 (Good Friday)

Rockwell is a great residential area but I'd never stay here again to be a prisoner in a residential home. We thought this place might be closer to the airport than Intramuros, and it might be better to stay in a residential home on a Good Friday....it was a mistake...

  • 19. Ninoy Aquino International Airport

    April 3, April 7, April 9, April 10

This is the most disconnected airport I have ever come across. The terminals are "connected" by shuttles (you have to queue up and pay for the shuttles). Unless i am flying into Philippines and going domestic, I will never use Ninoy Aquino International Airport for connections.

I am completely skeptical about the effectiveness of NAIA. The fixed rate taxis is flat Php500 and their metered taxis....also took us for a ride......

  • 20. Cebu Pacific Airlines
    http://www.cebupacificair.com/

    April 7 2012

Cebu Pacific flies out from Terminal 3 (the nicest of the 3 airport terminals). The irony is that the international flights are mostly at Terminal 1 (old terminal) while this budget airline flies out from Terminal 3).

There are only two budget airlines that flies to General Santos : Cebu Pacific and Airphil Express (under Philippine Airlines). My local friends tell me Cebu Pacific is quite good. This is my first time flying Cebu Pacific.

The uniforms are cheery and the fun part is that they make flying fun by playing games on the plane.

  • 21. General Santos
    General Santos, South Cotabato Province

    April 7 2012
I had NO IDEA that this the Mindanao till I arrived. Obviously I was too busy to research more thoroughly. I knew it is not popular tourist destination because there is not much literature on it.
All I know about Mindano is the kidnappings and muslim insurgence in the newspapers.....
We visited the Bawing Alliance Church and started visiting 5 families on the scholarship and livelihood program. All of them live in Nipa huts. If I think my late grandma's village in Guangzhou was poor ( in 1993), this is far poorer.

  • 22. Dolores Tropicana Resort
    http://doloreshotels.rdgroup.com.ph/dolorestropicana.html

    April 7 & 8 2012 (Easter Weekend)

Trust me, this is only a "resort" from a local perspective. The pictures may look "rustic" but it is a resort far far worse that any NTUC resort for the mass market or some of the HK campsites. Two nights here is enough....
    1. There is no hot water. Or rather, the heater is not working.
    2. The loud music in the "resort" goes Boom Boom Boom througout. 24 hours.
    3. The room smells.....
    4. All-in-all, it is very very very very very basic......
Very poorly maintained resort. My husband got bed bugs, my friend got cockroach in her room....

The biggest saving grace is their garlic fried chicken, kinilaw and fried tang hoon :)

Of course, I also have to remember that Christ died for us on the Cross this Easter, so what is this little suffering compared to His?

  • 23. Lemlunay Resort & South Point Divers
Lemlunay Resort & South Point Divers, Sarangani Province, Mindanao

    April 8 2012, Easter Sunday.

After the 5 am Sunrise Easter service at Bawing Alliance Church, and interviewing the students to re-qualify them for scholarships, all of us were famished headed back to the Dolores Tropicana "Resort" for late lunch. 5 of us headed to this resort (instead of resting) as we head so much about the views. It was breathtaking ! Excellent view!!
Some of the best things in life is God-created. You don't need to have a lot of money to feel God's presence.

  • 24. Sarangani Highlands Garden and Restaurant
Sarangani Highlands Garden and Restaurant, General Santos, South Cotabato Province

    April 8 2012, Easter Sunday.

We were here for a small graduate ceremony for the scholarship students who have benefited from the scholarships sponsored by UC Church. The meal was simple (just 3 main courses, fruits and drinks) and it costs Php12.000 to feed 40 pax, an occasion of joy/treat for the parents of the kids. It felt like family.

  • 25. Shekinah Alliance Bible College

    April 9 2012, Easter Monday

Coming from a developed country, I never knew how under-resourced a 3rd World Bible College can be. The infrastructure is far worse than my primary school (that's 37 years ago) and it makes me realise we live in a world of abundance, taking everything for granted. It is a reminder that we don't need to be "wealthy" in order to live & serve God.

  • 26. BEST WESTERN Hotel La Corona
BEST WESTERN Hotel La Corona, Manila, Metro Manila

    April 9 2012 (Easter Monday)

    Check out hotel review....
We thought this hotel might be more convenient to Terminal 1, since we are flying off the next day.

It is a pretty decent hotel in a rather seedy area.....

  • 30. Cafe Mary Grace
Cafe Mary Grace, Taguig City, Metro Manila

  • 32. Robinsons Place Mall
Robinsons Place Mall, Manila, Metro Manila

    April 10, 2012

This is not a shopping trip for us, but we dropped by here before heading to the airport, to grab some mangoes (dried and fresh ones) for our friends in HK.

  • 33. Cathay Pacific

    April 10 2012
