South Island with our teenage family

drove here straight from airport in Christchurch, after arriving late at around 6pm. Had to stop at Little River for dinner at a pub, which was very friendly and helpful! Stayed at Les Troupes Apartments-very roomy and appealing-already wishing we had longer than one night to enjoy it!

Spent whole morning exploring Akaroa, setting off at 1200 for Dunedin. long pretty drive, stopping at Lincoln for lunch and shopping, and Timaru for a break. Arrived at Heritage Character Apartments around 6. Found warm homely apartment, like a big home, complet with pool table, which the teens loved! Welcoming fire on. Nearby pizza restaurant excellent!

Did a walking tour of Dunedin, looking at beautiful heritage buildings, including Railway Station, and Cathedral, having lunch near the Octagon, and booking our Milford sound tour from the i-site. Checked out world's steepest street, (Baldwin St). Didn't head off til 3pm, everyone tired out after racing each other up said street. Arrived Te Anau around tea time and had some nice take away fish and chips for tea in Comfort Inn Explorer (large, with manicured lawns all around). Stayed 2 nights, as we went on bus tour and cruise on Milford Sound with Real Journeys. Weather was sunny (cloudless), stunning day on large sailing vessel. Checked out Fjordland Cinema and had dinner at Steak house. Boys joined in with rugby obsession by buying a ball and much fun was had by all the rest of the trip in spare moments.
