    Tahiti, Society Islands

From the crown of majestic peaks in the center of the island to the flat coastal lands and cliffs along the shoreline, Tahiti has a varied terrain perfect for exploration and safari. Mount Aorai and the Pari region offer exquisite hiking opportunities. There are a number of exciting museums in the cities, including the Paul Gauguin Museum and surrounding botanical gardens in Papeari. The island is also a great place for diving, surfing, waterskiing and snorkeling.

  • 2. Pape’ete
    Papeete, Tahiti

This bustling Tahiti city boasts beautiful resorts, relaxing spas and excellent shopping. The Marché du Pape'ete is a vibrant public market near the waterfront offering great sightseeing and shopping opportunities, and the many restaurants at Vai'ete Square provide a variety of foods for differing tastes.

  • 3. Huahine
    Huahine, Society Islands

This quiet island is home to lush vegetation, small villages and a large number of pre-European Marae, or traditional aboriginal meeting houses. The island is a great location for jet skiing and surfing as well as exploring marine life in the pristine lagoon.

  • 4. Bora Bora
    Bora Bora, Society Islands

Bora Bora is one of the most popular destinations in French Polynesia, and for good reason. Its lush vegetation, commanding volcanic peaks and lustrous turquoise lagoon make it one of the most picturesque and majestic islands in the South Pacific. From safaris in the interior to diving with manta rays and reef sharks in the lagoon, the island offers much in the way of breathtaking views and engaging adventures.

  • 5. Motu Tapu

This picturesque island just off the main island of Bora Bora is the most photographed island in French Polynesia. Its remote beaches and serene lagoon are coveted destinations only offered with certain resort packages.

  • 6. Rangiroa
    Rangiroa, Tuamotu Archipelago

Located in the Tuamotu Islands, this island is one of the world’s most important dive sites, with an immense lagoon and abundant marine life.

  • 7. Tikehau
    Tikehau, Tuamotu Archipelago

Also in the Tuamotu Islands group, this secluded island is known for its distinctive and picturesque pink sand beaches

  • 8. Hiva Oa
    Hiva Oa, Marquesas Islands

This historic island in the secluded Marquesas Islands has the distinction of being the final resting place of artist Paul Gauguin. Both his gravesite in the Calvary Cemetery and the Gauguin Museum are located on this island.
