Me & My Fiance spent 8 days traveling Ireland. It was a busy trip & saw a lot. If you have the time i recommend adding an xtra day in some of the locatins to relax & explore.
Arrived early am and spent 2 days exploring. Spent first day on foot seeing St Patricks Cathedral, Dublin Castle, Temple Bar. Spent 2nd day taking bus out to Glasnevin Cemetry, then exploring Trinity College & Grafton St. We felt it was a good amount of time, only things we missed were Guiness & Jameson, but then we had plenty of guiness on the trip
On day 3, we rented a car from Hertz and headed towards Kilkenny. Powerscourt was our first stop and we spent an hour or so wandering the gardens. Also, check out the waterfall. We had enough time to do powerscourt & glendalough & still make it to kilkenny around 5pm, I reccomend an early start thou to avoid the tour buses making these same stops.
Our 2nd stop on the way to Kilkenny, we took a nice walk out by the lake & explored the ruins.
We spent the night in Kilkenny and it was one of my fiances favorite towns. Wander around the castle, dinner at Langstons & some music in the pub.
Day 4 we went from Kilkenny by the Rock of Cashel & Gougane Bara over to Kenmare. We again were able to do all and arrive in kenmare around 4pm.
This was an impromptu stop on our trip from Cashel to Kenmare and we are so glad we did. There is a loop you can drive in the car, so it can take as little or as much time as you want. But we really enjoyed.
Great little city, be sure to make dinner reservations!
Day 5 we drove from Kenmare to Dingle, and did the slea head drive. Unfortuanteley it was raining this day so our drive didn't take long as we didn't want to get out of the car. Great views thou. And such a cute town. Dinner at Global Village & drinks at Dick Macs were one of our favorite nights.
Day 6 went from dingle by cliffs of moher up to Galway. This was along day but we felt we had to see the cliffs. It is crowded with tourists thou.
We spent a little bit of time driving through the burren, and it was probably our least favorite thing. I think just a bit of it on the way to Galway (without the detour) would have been sufficient for us.
Our final stop was 3 nights in Galway. With a day trip to hike in Connemara & Aran Islands. We went straight from Galway to Shannon the morning of our flight & had no probelms.
Gorgeous area & with great little hikes. Really feel like you're away from the tourists & find great things. If you can find it, Mamean is great
We took the ferry over for the day & rented bikes to ride out to Don Aengus & back. I defineteley reccomend bikes. It is a bit far to walk, and you get to leisurely enjoy the scenery vs a car. If you have kids, go for the horse & buggy.
