Top ten museums I've visited worldwide, with a brief description.
Not only keeps uncountable treasures from all places, since the beginnings of the western civilization, but also hosts the Sistine Chapel, with its heavenly painted walls and ceiling, signed by Michelangelo.
The most famous museum in the World. Owner of precious pieces of art and objects, spanning from 7000 bc to 1848 AD. The Monalisa, by Leonardo Da Vinci, and the Hammurabi Code are just two of its most known relics.
The most important roman museum I can recall. Also designed by Michelangelo, hosts unbelievable preciosities from the Roman Empire, like Marcus Aurelius equestrian statue, and allows a fantastic view of the Roman Forum ruins.
Spanning from 1848 to 1914, this fantastic collection of impressionist artists, and other contemporary styles, might spoil visits to any other museum of this kind for the rest of your life, making them unimpressive or even boring, and that's precisely why it must be visited.
The artist's former residence in Paris now hosts his most important museum. All the classics are there (The Thinker, The Kiss, The Gates of Hell, etc...). The building itself is beautiful, the gardens are charming.
The collection of pre-columbian art is astonishing. It only lacks a few more pieces of brazilian art, like marajoara pottery. Nonetheless, its a fantastic display of indigenous heritage.
The most impressive private art collection in Argentina hosts a rich display of argentine art, with the likes of Antonio Berni and Xul Solar, besides a few foreign masterpieces, like William Turner's "Juliet and her Nurse", in an ultra-modern and green-oriented building at the most sophisticated neighborhood in Buenos Aires.
If it wasn't partially closed for reform, It would be best ranked in this list, but anyway the "masterpieces" section was open for visits and its Rembrandts and Vermeers were enough for it to make the top 10.
Not in the list because of its collection of foreign artists, like Picasso, Goya or Renoir, but for its unparalleled display of Candido Portinari's works, and other brazilian artists.
It might sound a profanity, to many people, including a wax museum, full of real-sized modern-day celebrities' and historical figures' sculputures, in a top 10 museum list, among many respected cultural institutions, but Madame Tussauds' museum in London is a centuries-old institution itself, crowded by children of all ages fullfiling some of their impossible dreams of mocking Hitler's moustache or shaking hands with Obama. Impossible not to enjoy it.
