You may not be able to make it to all of these beaches, but if you're looking for one (or two, or three) good ones, start with these.

1. Playa Las Perlas
The protected waters of this small beach make it popular with locals. If you're not staying at one of the nearby resorts, you'll be out of luck in terms of facilities and water-sports equipment.
2. Playa Linda
This beach is along the Nichupte Channel, so boat traffic and the ferry to Isla Mujeres make it unsafe for swimming. The scenery is beautiful, however, and you won't find a better people-watching place.
3. Playa Langosta
This beach has calm waters and gentle waves that make it a great place to swim, especially for families with children. However, there are no public facilities and the beach does get crowded with tourists and spring-breakers due to its proximity to many all-inclusive resorts.
4. Playa Tortugas
Now this is what a beach should be! Plenty of sand, excellent swimming and facilities at both ends…
5. Playa Caracol
This beach isn't for swimming - the area has been almost completely developed and rocks jutting out of the water make it dangerous.
Swimmers need to use extra caution in the waters of this scenic beach because of the large waves and strong undertow. It's great for watersports, though!
This is the first beach on Caribbean waters, and the warm, shallow water is great for walking in - just beware the undertow!
8. Playa Marlin
This is a beautiful Caribbean beach, but swimmers need to be mindful of the strong currents and waves. It's very accessible through the resorts, but there are no public facilities.
This is the beach to go to if you like lively crowds - its location near two public parking lots makes it very accessible.
