My husband and I took a day trip to Baltimore with the goal of eating some good food and seeing what Baltimore was all about.

  • 1. American Visionary Art Museum
American Visionary Art Museum, Baltimore, Maryland

This is not your typical art museum. It features artists who do not normally get exhibited. There was a building with kinetic artwork, a building with a giant chess set made out of welded metal sculptures, and the main building housed the rotating exhibits. The art was very high quality and interesting, and the whole experience was enjoyable.

  • 2. LP Steamers
    LP Steamers, Baltimore, Maryland

We walked from AVAM to LP Steamers for lunch, about a 15 minute walk. LP Steamers is a casual place, more like a bar than a restaurant. We ordered beers, fries, and 3 extra large steamed crabs. The crabs were delicious, and the prices were reasonable. It's not fancy, but the food is good.

  • 3. National Aquarium in Baltimore
    National Aquarium, Baltimore, Baltimore, Maryland

We arrived at the National Aquarium at 3pm and were told it closed at 5:30pm. We bought our tickets and proceeded in to the building. The exhibits were informative and beautiful. I was disappointed by the lack of penguins, but I guess you can't have everything. We got through the main exhibit by 4:30pm and could have gone over to the next bldg, but we thought we had another hour. We spent 10 min. in the gift shop and then walked to the ped bridge to the next building. Turns out the other building closes at 4:45p and they don't let you into it after 4:30pm. So we were disappointed that we didn't get to see the jellyfish exhibit and wish they had made the closing times more obvious at the aquarium entrance. Overall, this a very good aquarium.

  • 4. Duda's Tavern
    Duda's Tavern, Baltimore, Maryland

For dinner, we wanted crab cakes and found Duda's to be highly rated through several sources. Also we were there on a Tuesday which is half price crab cake night. I ordered the crab cake platter with 2 crab cakes, cole slaw, and potato salad. My husband orderd a single crab cake with a side of potato salad. The crab cakes had large pieces of crab in them with very little filler. I thought they could have had a little more seasoning but overall they were delicious. Duda's is primarily a bar with 6-7 tables but the interior has dark wood and is very clean and well kept.
